    Hi folks,

A member was mentioning that some lubricant seemed to be very lightly spattering the inside of the rear wheel of his VFR1200.

I noticed the same thing on the VFR1200 that I might buy. It is brand new in the showroom (the bike has not even been prepped) but very small drops of lubricant that seem to be falling from the drive shaft unit are visible on the rear wheel... looks just like the wheel is ''sweating''.

Anyone experiencing this on their VFR1200? Could this be coming from the shaft? Anything to be worried about?

    Thanking you in advance!

I have all of 50 miles on mine and see what looks like the tiniest amount of fluid on the rear wheel as well. I'll keep an eye on it and inspect the shaft next time I'm playing with her. I was thinking it was probably some axle grease or similar and flew off the first time everything warmed up.

    Is there a breather hole?

A lot of brake dust builds up on mine but I've not seen a drop of fluid.

Rub it with a finger and I bet you will find its a powder, im guessing from the brakes of exhaust. Had plenty on my back wheel for the first couple hundred miles

I had this on my VTX 1800. Transmission was little bit to much fluid and was pushed out, but very small amount. Normal.

Thanks for taking the time to provide feedback.
It definitely was fluid (I touched it) and there were a few drops on several spots on the wheel (liked it dripped down from the axle/shaft while the bike is still).
Hopefully it is simply excess fluid, not a leak.

Here are photos of my rear rim... It's definitely fluid that then attracts brake dust... Examining the shaft, brake lines, and axle I can't see any obvious place that it's coming from. Going to wipe it clean and see if it comes back.

    Anyone have any other suggestions?

While cleaning it, although it looks liquid, it mostly wipes right off... It looks/feels like brake dust that may have been gathering on polish...

We'll see if it comes back now that I cleaned it off....

    Hey Warren,
The difference is the one I have seen is still in the showroom and have never been ridden so you could see the drops of fluid but no brake dust.
The drops were right at the bottom of the wheel (suggesting that they fall from the shaft/axle.)
From your picture, it seems obvious that some sticky fluid gets there.

I noticed the same thing after the first couple hundred miles when I washed the bike. I did't see any obvious leaks. Cleaned the rim and now watch it closely. When I changed the gear oil at 600 miles I noted that it had not been overfilled. And now with 1200 miles no oil leaking - so far. I am hoping that it was just the initial oil on the seal when it was new.

It hasn't reappeared for me either... Just after the 1st hundred miles or so. I'm approaching 800 and no sign of it has returned.

Mine had the same thing before it was even prepped. I rode it home 35 miles and I noticed some drops of oil on the underside of the rear fender. Smells like hypoid gear oil to me so must be leaking from around or out of the final drive...DUDE, I thought I had escaped the fling!!

Mine looked like that when I first got it, and again after the first 100 mile ride. ...haven't seen anything like it since. I wouldn't worry about it. I'd much rather Honda put a little extra lube somewhere than none at all (like the swing-arms on their dirt bikes). :)
