When "dirt-tracking", as in the photo, the front tire stays steered to the side (so to speak) due to the slippage of the rear tire. If the rear tire actualy hooks up (gains pretty much full traction), the rider will have to make a VERY quick steering adjustment, and will more likely than not, get the shivers.
Well back in the day, the road racers would slide around ( point and shoot ) style of riding. the king IMO was Gary McCoy link below YouTube - Gary McCoy - Slide Now it is all about corner speed. Maybe when 2012 hits and Moto GP goes to the 1000's we will see more of the point and shoot again.
I may be a newbie myself, but I just took the ABATE training course last fall and I remember what they drilled into us: to turn right--look right, press right, go right. And by "press" they mean to gently press on the right handlebar. The turn and lean will initiate itself. Just my two cents.
