havnt been around in awhile. but im back at the vfr gonna finish it now.

everything is buttoned up but now im stuck at the carbs.
which is where this all started.

ok below where the fuel line connects to the carbs is the vent tube(a tee)
where does this go to. i looked at a manual and its confusing.
also there are 3 connections to the fuel tank. i have the fuel line hooked up, it was there when i got the bike. the littleone at the front of the tank i figure is a drain foor the fuel cap?
but the 2nd one in the center of the tank i have no clue? does this connect to the carb vent? doesnt make sense to me but who knows .

im ready to get it started and this is my only hold up after a year of going thru the bike.

    many thanks. Q

fullerton= california. Look at the front right side around bottom edge of radiator. If there is a cannister (funny looking can) then you have a california emissions model which is different from lower 48. I have a 86 vfr700f( your member specs say yours is 86vfr700 . My honda service manual says lowest nipple is fuel. Next one up they call fuel tank breather tube, but I think squirrel man once said it also handles overflow around cap. I looked at a spare tank I have for this model, lower 48, and it has two nipples. If there is a third more near the top front its a vacuum line . Vapor gets pulled to the cannister . Don't quote me on this but I think I am right.

it has no canister but it is a cali model. it has been removed. so my guess is cap the small one. and the 2nd is a vent to go down toward the ground?

    good and bad news

well i got her to run for a few seconds tonight. runs great .....

well except for that loud knocking noise from the front of motor. now wether to decide if its a parts bike or rebuild the motor. id rather not spend the time right now.
have too much going on. but wanted to button this up.

    Have you synch'd the carbs?

You'd be surprised the noise these motors can make when the carbs are out of synch. (or so I hear)

ok so i got it started again.

looks like i might need to go back thru the carbs. but i let it warm up and it sounds nice except for the knocking. i dont think its the carbs. but will look into it more.

now for all the smoke that came out. i had to stop. couldnt breath anymore.
this time it rev`d up to 8k like nothing.

was wondering. did the 86`s have a problem with the cams. i had the rear valve cover off, but didnt want to fool with the front.
also what about the clutch? i tried the screw driver to the ear trick. and could not pin point the sound. but its from the front of the bike. so it seems. but louder in the right side.

    Smoke+knocking=possible piston or valve problem.

    Time for a compression test.
