Hey all you VFR owners, I just joined this forum as I bought a 2002 VFR 800 with 20,637 miles and ABS on March 27. The bike is silver and has soft hand grips, slimmer license plate holder, and a taller smoke-tinted windscreen as well as the matching rear seat cowl. Tires on it are Pirelli Diablo Stradas with roughly 1,000 miles on them. The bike does have a few knicks and scuffs but nothing major by any means. If any of you are wondering how much I got the bike for, I paid $4200. I have not rode the bike yet due to cold weather here in Upstate NY. I would love to hear from you about your experience with your VFR's and what I should expect, etc.

Welcome, not a lot to know for now. There will probably be a few things that come up, like freeing up the great sound of it's V4, or fuel mapping issues related to slow speed surging. Just put some mileage on her and see where you stand. One thing I would check is the VIN: unless I'm completely missing something, which is definitely possible, with silver paint - your bike should be an '03.

    Enjoy the ride!

My bike may be a 2003, but the title does say it is a 2002 although the color indicated is gray. When you say maybe changing the fuel mapping due to low speed surging, will a power commander help out? Like you said, I will need to ride it and get a feel for the bike. I owned a 2003 Ducati Monster 620 before picking up this bike. That had a 90 degree v-twin that was surprisingly quick and very responsive even though it had about 65 horsepower.

At off-idle parking lot speeds there is a surging effect on 6 gen VFR's, as well as a big power dip just before VTEC engagement which can make the transition a little abrubt on earlier models. A PCIII with a dyno-tune, or a PCV with auto-tune, solves everything. Just make sure that any other mods, especially exhaust, are done prior to the Power Commander's install and tune.

Don't forget about the wiring harness recall that affected 2002-2005 models. Provide the VIN to a dealershit and they can tell you if the work was done. Welcome aboard to you and your "alleged" bike. Pics please!

I'll post pictures in a little bit when I have some free time and daylight. Thank you "Rollin_Again" for letting me know about the wiring harness recall.
