Ok so I have read all of the differing opinions on valve adjustments. My bike has 50,000 km's on it, purchased with 30,000. Previous owner said that the owner before him did the valves, but I have no paper work to confirm.

I'm on the fence as to whether I should do it, it is expensive.

That's 30,000 miles for you yanks.

    Any thoughts?

I can pretty much be assured that it has never been done, so in she goes. Service starts at $500, plus whatever adjustments they have to make, hopefully none.

I'd tell them you expect a worksheet showing measurements pre and post adjustments. If they had to adjust for every valve, it shouldn't add more than 1hr of labor and no parts. They will swap the shims and reuse your old ones on another bike. Kind of like carb jets, a good shop whose doing carb tuning on your bike will normally swap out your old jets for new at no charge.

$500 sounds about right. It's a good 5hr job start to finish for an experienced wrench. Having a worksheet showing each valve's measurement will be good to keep with your maintenance records for resale and other reasons.
