I don't think you could put one half in neutral if you tried. The way the spring detents are and such. But that's just me

Possible? but it a cold snap moved though and now the chain has more slack than the last adjustment without riding. Go figure.

Probably not, it would be difficult to get it just right, but if it could be done by accident, I bet Randy could do it.

I'm just not sure how to take that one Bear. Does it mean I have talent, or I am very capable of fucking things up?

I can't wait to get out on the bike for a ride a few times to see if the problem repeats itself.

Well get better and let us know.
I hate maintaining chains, because I don't like getting dirty. If they would just hurry up and come out with something better than chains (tractor beams from tranny to rear sprocket anyone?), we wouldn't have all these problems.

My buddy just did that with the bike running at a stop light the other day. Granted it was on a Kawi, but it is possible. Hell, I've found false neutral before inbetween gears that weren't 1 and 2 before. It takes just the right screw up to make it happen.

I have false neutrals in my gearbox as well.

But they are between 2-3 and 5-6.

not the same as actual neutral between 1-2 which has a spring detent on the side of the case and a position on the shift drum. Putting your bike between 1st and neutral and 2nd and neutral would be much more difficult than hitting a false neutral between 2nd and 3rd.

sure, nothing's impossible. But about as unlikely as Billy and Crusty having Christmas together.

Would front sprocket wear/pull cause the noise? I know it's new and all, but metal is metal. A bad batch of sprokets may have been not heat treated the way they should have or something. If it was softer than needed the teeth could possably been pulled under power. You are rotating the wheel backwards. Is it less noticible forward & did you visually inpect the front sprocket? Just a wild ass guess...

For the ten minutes, I wouldn't ride that without at least pullin off the speedo sensor and have a look and feel in there to make sure the bolt is tight and your sprocket doesn't seem loose. I watched the video a few times, I can definately agree with it also just being partial in and out of gear, I considering going out in the garage and seeing if I can duplicate that noise by trying to half shift it. Must have been a stomach sickening noise noise eh?

The clip does not really show where the noise comes from but to the ear, it sound more like it was coming from the gear box, rather than the front sprocket. I tried to capture that difference by moving the camera close to the sprocket but without luck. Just about to head out on a 150 mile round trip ride so here's hoping......

Well. I went out to Rchmond and back to Chilliwack today for about 150 miles round trip. Maybe a bit more. No niose. All right. So I don't know what was the problem. The only thing I did to correct this was to loosen the chain a bit, So I suppose that is the likely culprit. Good news to be sure. That sound was just sickening and had the difinitiuve sound of money to be spent.

Anothe positive note was the place I went to in Richmond replaced my HID lights no questions asked on their life time warranty. An hour on my back on the cold concrete in the garage once I got home and they too are working fine. A good day over all I must say. Weaterh was beautiful for a ride.

Glad I'm not the only one experiencing false nuetrals. I have em between 2nd & 3rd and 5th & 6th as well, but only noticeable if I'm raggin on her pretty hard. It's lilke she's bluntly reminding "Hey dumbass... you see that 53,xxx number on the speedo??? I ain't no spring chicken anymore!" and I have to take a breath and apologize for being stupid again.

Same here. I've started to learn to maintain upward pressure on the shifter while releasing the clutch lever. Once the clutch is out then I relax my foot. This has worked well for me. You'll feel it pop into gear as you are releasing the clutch without any grinding experienced with the false neutral. This method of shifting has started to feel natural now but was very odd at first.

That is not far off a clutch less shift right there Tink. Slight upward pressure on the shifter and a quick flick of the accelerator and it pops into the next gear. Trust me. Coming from a guy who experienced gawd awful noises recently

I actually got an invite but it was for a Christmas goose. The dude is really kinky and wanted to use chain lube.
