I wouldn't say so I have 43000 on my 99. It is less than 2000 a year. The biggest thing is how it has been taken care of. IMHO

The mileage is nothing to worry about as long as the maintanence was properly done. Matter of fact I know quite a few people with 50k+ on their VFR's and they run and look as good as new. Now something to worry about is the charging system. Inspect the R/R (regulator/rectifier) plugs, connectors, and wiring for any signs of melting. Also make sure to test voltage thoroughly with a voltometer. I would also check to see if the R/R and wiring harness were upgraded from the stock units which are pieces of $hit. Other than a few minor electrical fixes these bikes are well built and the engine will last a long time. Oh, everything I said about reliability only applies if you use the best oil in the world Shell Rotella T. I will also mention that a bike like you described would be worth somewhere in the $2800 to $3500 range depending on condition and mods.
