Best wishes to all affected by this. I know it doesn't look good; hopefully the timely issuence of a tsunami warning will minimize the loss of life this go around. No doubt that there will be tough times ahead, but Japanese pride and resilience will most certainly see their country through this. Good to hear that your family is well, Scuba. The last I heard, there have been no injuries to service personnel.

My sincere hopes and wishes that everyone's loved ones over there are fine. I saw the feed about an hour after it hit while I was here on VFRW the other night. That sight of the black wave running over the farm land, and the many more images that followed were sickening. My first thoughts went to my friend and former exchange student who lived with me years ago. He now lives in Tokyo. Would he and his young family be alright. I had to send him an email. I was so happy to receive a return mail from him saying he and his wife and children were fine.

Long. I do hope you hear from your nephew soon.

We can all play a part in helping our friends over in Japan by contributing to the International Red Cross. Times are tough and not everyone can step up to the plate right now. But those of us who can, should.

The coverage on TV is so overwhelming, I had to turn it off. It doesn't seem real. No doubt that this is where our money should be going to help countries get through unforeseen disasters like this one. My thoughts and prayers are with the people of Japan and their families and friends.

Before sending any money off to anyone, check out the source. The idea is to help those in need in Japan not Nigeria or some asshole in Birdshit, Alabama who last week was selling Jesus praying cloths to old ladies.

It's still hard to believe. The footage was something. That ship being tossed around was pretty wild. I would volunteer my services, but every time something like this happens and I try, they are already overwhelmed with volunteers. If anyone does hear that they need more medical personnel and some type of contact info, let me know. I would be willing to go over and do what I could.

    Simply horrific...

To watch Christchurch in my home country New Zealand suffer what I thought to be a horrific ordeal with the 6.8 earthquake on Feb 22nd, then to turn on the TV the other night to see live footage of the 8.9 quake and then the Tsunami was just shocking. My thoughts went out to the hundreds who lost their loved ones in the Christchurch earthquake... now my deepest sympathies go out to all of Japan, who have lost thousands of souls.... the devastation is unfathomable!

It's been a very long time since there has been any real good news. Slowly, but surely, it takes a little bit from everyone, every single time another bit of bad news is publicized. Most of the time this goes unnoticed, due to the world in which we have subconciously created to isolate ourselves from this constant taking of our personal spirit. We have become oblivious by manner of neccessity. This time, an inconceivably large quantity of spirit, family, and life has been taken. Entire generations and thousands of years of traditon have perished, forever. They will never carry on the name of their family, they will never pass on that legacy. That family is no more. You can't just put a (insert value type here) value on that type of loss. Not one word, or group of words can ever explain, change, or reverse, what has truly been lost because of this event. The next time someone messes up your drive thru order, just think about prioritizing exactly how important that is to you and your world.....I know I will.

    Just un update
Still not heard from my other nephiew, but one of them is on his way home from Japan. Here is his email I want to share with you all. My heart goes out to the people of Japan,

    Everyone,

Apologies to those who have mailed or messaged me, it's been a hectic few days as you can imagine, and I wasn't able to reply or update you. As Thu mentioned, I am safe and on my way home to San Diego.

After discussing the current situation with co-workers and close friends, Ive decided to leave Tokyo until things settle down a bit. The reports you're seeing from international and US media might be a bit skewed and sensationalized. The atmosphere in Tokyo is eerily calm considering the events of the past couple days. Having said that, the current condition has escalated enough that I thought it would be best to take a few days leave to calm the fears of my family and give myself some piece of mind. Better safe than sorry I guess. In Tokyo, we continue to be in short supply of resources and energry, aftershocks are still frequent, and the situation at the nuclear plants remain grim. Lots of things are uncertain at this point, so I'm taking it as it comes.

Hopefully, if all goes as planned, I'll be back in San Diego sometime tomorrow. I look forward to seeing all of you soon.

    Thien

P.S. Please keep japan and it's people in your thoughts and prayers. They've handled themselves with such tremendous composure in the face of tragedy. It's really sad that the aftermath of the tsunami and the ongoing rescue operation is being overshadowed by the nuclear crisis at the moment. I really hope they get the situation under control soon, this country has already endured through enough...
