It's been a crazy and tiring 14 months, but I completed my journey this afternoon with full ceremony and reception!

At 4:16 pm on March 11th, 2011 I was awarded the Certificate of Completion for the 60 Week Motorcycle Technician Specialist Program, which included 24 weeks in the HonTech/HondaPro training facility.

I concluded my studies with perfect attendance and a 3.95 GPA!

I got a single "B" in Clinic 7a (Performance Review) which I got because of one single project that I technically had the time to perform but the instructor didn't realize how close my end grade was and told me that I couldn't do it cause he wanted to start reverting the lab to class room. My final score in that class was an 89.4%... just .1% away from rounding to an "A".

I was beat out from getting SOC (Student of the Course) 4 times by less than a 1% margin. Twice by my buddy Brent (Electrical and Engine Performance, both by .2%), and the other two by .5% (Shop Operations & HonTech Fuel & Engine Maintenance). I was hoping for Top Tech in Honda but the competition was very fierce as most of the other students had much, much more experience with bikes and mechanical repairs in general than I did. Regardless, I maintained straight A's all the way through Honda, and made some really good friends along the way... which far outweighs the lack of awards.

But, it's all good... at this point I don't give a damn... it's over... it's final... I'VE GRADUATED!!!!!

    It gets better....

Student Services was contacted by a company near Sky Harbor Int'l Airport requesting applicants that are local or would consider staying local after graduation that had a very high skill set/GPA and good attendance. They sent the company my resume and transcript. I get a phone call yesterday morning from the company requesting that I verbally verify that I had a 100% attendance and a 3.95 GPA, to which I said "Yes, that's correct." The response was "We'd like you to come in for an interview as soon as possible. Is Monday at 9am ok for you?"

The funny part about all this is that after accepting the appointment for the interview and asking about what the job entailed I was told that they basically do brake services, electrical diagnostics, transponder and beacon replacements, and other minor maintenance services on small aircraft. I was like "Ummm, you DO realize that I went to MMI for motorcycle repairs, right?" She laughed and said "Yeah, we are looking for someone that we can train that already has a mechanical background."

So... my first job offer after graduation isn't for a dealership (which I in no way, shape or form wanted to work at anyways), and isn't from a small Mom & Pop shop like I was hoping for... it's to work on airplanes. Never in the entire time from at first thinking about attending MMI to now had I ever had the thought "Hmmmmm.... maybe this will eventually lead me to a job as an Aviation Service Technician?" LOL

Congrats and good luck on your interview. If you do pursue a career in the aviation field and want to keep your hand in on bikes, I have a couple that will need taking care of.......................All the best.

Congratulations. You certainly should remove "Lazy" from your screen name because that obviously isn't the case. I would do a little research on your part to see where this aviation job could take you (career / earning potential). Maybe it is a blessing in disguise. Good luck with the interview and please let us know how it goes on Monday.

Thanks to all of you. I'm seriously considering taking the job if it's offered to me. I know that aviation techs make some good bank, much more than a motorcyle tech. It'll be a cool job for sure.

I'll be flying out of Sky Harbor on Tuesday morning heading to visit my family back in Delaware. Haven't seen most of them in well over 4 years now, some not since I moved out here to AZ back in '99. After I get back, if any of you want to hang out, go for a ride, or have a project sitting around that you'd like some help tinkerin around with (oil changes included LOL)... hit me up. With school out of the way, my schedule just went wide open... at least that is till work picks up on the hours or I get a full time gig like this aviation one.

Allthough I'm sure you will be focused on seeing your family and home things (as you should be) while you're back in DE, if you decide to do a ride over here on the right coast while your back, let me know.

Good work getting those high grades and fantastic that you got the job interview.

Take it if you can since most junior 'cycle shop mechanics do tons of boring tire changes at first, and the money isn't great.
