Seriously I make George Costanza look like an amateur.
I got home from work last night. Friday for us down here. It was late afternoon. The end of summertime in the tropics. The sky was getting pretty dark and the day was starting to cool. I could see a storm way out on the ocean. But the air was completely still.
I thought to myself a beer with some prawns and blue swimmer crab. The first footy game of the season was on in two hours on the TV. Perfect.
I warmed up the Viffer and my lady jumped on. Off the the wharf where the trawlers come in.
It was still about 26C and just perfect for a ride in the jeans, gloves and a T shirt.
    And it was.
We went for a walk along the beach and the sea was really calm. The lights on the buildings were all coming on and reflecting off the ocean. Nirvana.
The cruise home was a kinda freaky tantric threesome between my lady and my bike. How can a night get any better. Seriously it was perfect.
The prawns, footy and my lady exceeded my expectations. God it was a good day.
And to top it off I was going for a ride through the range with the lads at 9am. Phhhfftt It does not get better.
I get up and shower. Grinning like a fat kid with a bag of lollies. Mates turn up and Fi FI kisses me goodbye.
Keys ???? WTF are my keys. Not in the bike. Not where they should be. Not bloody anywhere. It's now six hours later and I have torn the world apart looking for them.
I did not leave the house last night. And no one came here. The kids were all out for the night.
I rode the bike into the garage. I put the seafood in the fridge. I pulled a beer out. I jumped into some shorts and grabbed my guitar and played for an hour and then watched footy and ate my sensational dinner.
They have vanished off the face of the earth.
I was out there dry reaching with my mates laughing their asses off watching me go through the crab and prawn scraps. Well might have been more than a few beers and a glass of red I had as well and I was feeling a little green. A ride would have cleared the head beautifully.
I mean how the hell can they vanish? Seriously I have turned my whole world upside down looking for them And they are no where to be found.
I missed my ride. My lady had a seminar and the kids are out still and I have wasted my Saturday. Spewing. I just cannot remember even taking them out of the bike. I never do at home as you would have to be a good thief just to get to my bikes. So a steering lock isn't going to stop them. And there are others I would rather steal than the Viffer.
I am an idiot. How can you lose your keys like that.

    Two things:

    1. When you find your keys, make a few extras. I carry a spare with me in case I lose one while I'm away from home. The spare key doesn't help much when it's in the dresser drawer 100 miles away.

    2. Please tell us where you do find them.

You did ask your kids if they might have taken them, right?

I have left them in the helmet lock before when I locked the helmet on so a clever thief could have found them and had my helmet if they looked.

I could kick myself about not having a key cut. I know how expensive it is when you lose them.
I just don't ride the Viffer much. Or haven't. I got it very cheap and was just going to make a few bucks out of it. But the little bugger is growing on me. It's a nice road bike.
The catch is I only moved into this home a week ago. At my house the bikes were very secure and I never took the keys out of them.
I've been seeing this lady for eight years and I got the we had to get serious talk. AGAIN. LOL but I think this time she really meant it. So yeah I moved into her house. Oh well we are buying an investment house together anyway. In for a penny as they say. I lasted eight years, that's pretty good.
And no to the kids as they all left for the night before we went out on the ride. And just got home an hour ago.
The guy I bought it off is somewhere in Sth America and no idea how to contact him to see if he has the initial key for it. And I have worked in the bike industry for a long time.
That's why I am such an idiot.

Have you checked in the fridge? I know it sounds weird, but I've accidentally lost my keys, or other important things, in there on a perfect day like that. You just get care-free since the day is going so well and then lose track of what you're doing while looking forward to the next thing on your list.

Also, check the couch and your riding pants. Yesterday's jean pockets have a way of stealing keys and money like no other..

    Good luck in the hunt!

Even checked the dishwasher. And yep fridge. Starting to worry I ate them. At least I will find them then. I'd stick my hand in a bowl of my own poo for what this will cost me.

The dealer can probably fix you up with another key by referencing a number on the ignition lock.
While accessing that number might be somewhat difficult, what's the chance the seat lock might be more easily gotten to for the number?

That's what I was going to say. Years ago I lost my keys and never did find them. Turned the house upside down. I'm now thinking they must have got dropped in the trash- it's the only place I didn't look. Even when I moved they didn't turn up.

Pants pocket, jacket pocket, on top of fridge, take home food bag, headboard, with wallet, with helmet, with gloves.

I Don't know, but start at bike and work your way back to bedroom, assuming you made it that far.

It's always the place you say "nah - couldn't be in there." That's why they're lost. Change your routine and look in places you think they could not be. Turn the furniture over, look inside your riding gloves, at the bottom of or behind the washing machine, etc. Hell, maybe the dog ate 'em and you have to wait for Fido to take a dump. Let's hope that's not it.

thanks for the help and suggestions guys. Nope it has not turned up. And we have turned the house upside down. I had all the garbage on a tarp and went through it with a fine tooth comb and a hose.
It's in the house but gone.
So anyway. I have googled and searched the forums. I've read quite a few that just got the locksmith out and no worries all fixed. Easy peasy.
Ah no and nope on that as far as the locksmith and Honda are concerned.
the locksmith does not have a motorcycle ignition reader and Honda don't keep a VIN to key code library.
So a new keys set will be $285
A new ECU will be $1300
    And three hours labor $300
Stuff me up a wombats bum I am an idiot

so...why do you need a new ECU? you must have a factory alarm system? and If I were you...I would take the old key sets put them in a bag and hang onto them....cause you never know when the key will turn up.....

Just for fun..did you check all over the bike. like every nook and cranny ? in between the fairings any place that the keys might have fallen when you got off the bike?

Need a new ecu because they are all connected. The key and the ecu through HISS. The code on the locks is for a key cut yes. But not for the HISS. So I could open the tank and take it off steering lock. That's about it. Oh pop the seat but I have done that easy without the key. And no code in the books. Or spare key in the tool kit (where I normally keep a spare)
I new it was going to be a new lock set and was not happy with the three hundred that was going to cost. But two large .....not good. I was hoping that the dealer could just ping in the code to the ecu.
My information is strait from Honda tech. I have no idea. ????????? Anything past an 04 in Honda's and K(hiss) you ass goodbye if you lose all the keys.

Holy Schnikies... How about the path between the bike and the house? With your hands full you could have missed your pocket or dropped it in grass, or kicked it under a table, etc.. Thru the cracks between lumber on the porch perhaps?

I once had something disappear on me thru a hole in my jacket pocket lining, and it went around the back of my jacket, inside it. I felt it but could not get it out at first!

Wow +1 on keeping the old stuff so you can sell the set if you find the key later. If you have other bikes, I'd wait as long as possible as it could turn up before you drop that much cash.
