Revalving the VFR front forks is probably the #1 best thing you do to the front end. New springs are a step in the right direction, but the stock compression valves are far too restrictive and create excessive high speed damping. There's not really anything you can do to correct that, you just need to replace them.
I took my '98 to the Little Talladega last year. This really highlighted the weakness of the stock suspension. I really like the bike even though I have a CBR954 that I usually run at track days. It needs help too, as everything is stock in it as well. Jamie, I figured if I was going to the trouble to tear down the forks to put new springs in it, then it would be senseless not to revalve it. I have to learn more about the VFR forks before I really understand it.
