Now that I have you sucked into ANOTHER tire thread, I promise it's not the norm :p I have a new tire on the back. It's a Conti, and has been working out great. The front is a Dunlop, but has been low for quite some time and I NEED to replace it ASAP. Everyone is recommending the Michelin Pilot Road 2 it seems. Any cause for alarm with a newish rear Conti and a brand new front Michelin? Or should I should at a Conti for the front as well?

Conti what? Dunlop what? Do you ever turn or do you mostly drive straight real fast? If you do turn, is it all gentle like or do you really ride the bike? No fudging now. The truth will set you free. It will also get you better more accurate advice.

Ok, sorry. Honestly you sould be riding match set rubber on your bike. Plenty of people do ride a mix but since you only have two, I think it best to have stuff with similar chars on the front and rear. I'm not so sure about he pilot roads being the best choice because that really depends on your riding style which around here is exagerated some times. I think right now you are better off dumping $96 or whatever $ on a conti front to match and then use the time you just bought yourself to make a real decision on tires and swap the whole set when your rear runs out.

Many people like and swear by the conti road attack " I assume that is wht you have" also may riders run supersport tires on their bikes. Who knows You may like the conti and decide to stick with them.

Always match rubber. Sometimes you can get away with using different models from the same manufactorer, but even that doesn't come recommended. Somebody will probably come along and say "don't worry, I do it all of the time." You won't want to listen to that, it's important to have matching tread and identical shoulder angles.

I just bought the michelin pilot ct2's... they are pretty cheap but man do they grip. and the rear has that extra rubber in the middle for longevity. I've been running those since 2004 and I LOVE THEM! Under 200 bucks for both tires.

I have run mistmatched and matched tires. Matched tires 'feel' better. You can do it, but the feedback is weird. It's hard to explain, but given the choice, I prefer to have the same brand and model front and back, not only that, I prefer to change the front when I change the back. I have always felt a little weird with a front tire that is older than my back one. I still do it sometimes, but I don't like it.

I just ordered the matching front - Conti Road Attack tire - for $130. It'll be here tomorrow.

Per my buddy who works for the local Honda dealer, he was getting 3000 miles out of his Michelins, but then switched to these and doubled his mileage. Grip stayed the same :)

I would go matched. Or have a better tire on the front than the back. Rather lose the rear than the front. I just put the Bridgestone 015's on the Viffer and am happy with them. They are about 30% cheaper than the PPr2's and Conti's. And wear just as well if not better. It's a Viffer not an RRyzpq10. And it only goes on the road. They brake very well and still grip with confidence even when the pegs are scraping. Cant ask much more than that.
