    Barnbaby here...

I'm in Kentucky, just south of Louisville. I do not yet own a VFR, but I've owned several Hondas and have heard so much about the VFR that I feel that it is inevitable that I will someday.

I did have a 1984 VF500F at one time, but my brother has it now. He's good with tools, but is having problems getting it to run properly. It will idle, but surges badly at anything above idle; even just trying to get it out of the garage results in many restarts. He has had the carbs off twice, meticulously cleaning and inspecting them, but has not found a problem with them. The diaphragms look fine. This bike has a fuel pump which checks out OK.

    If anyone has any suggestions....

I tried taking it for a ride recently; at times it would run fine, but then start surging. It's very difficult to ride while it's doing this, especially in a curve, as you might imagine. It seems to do it more when holding a steady speed; acceleration seems just fine.

Anyway, when the bike was running well, it was lots of fun, very powerful and smooth. I got a chance to demo a VFR750 at a Rider Magazine rally in Richmond, KY at the ECU campus sometime in the early 90s I'm guessing, and it reminded me very much of the VF500F, although with quite a bit more power. But it did not seem any larger or heavier; very smooth, with a nice ride and Honda's excellent build quality.

I'm here to learn about these machines so that I can make an educated purchase, do maintenance, find accessories, and anything else that comes along. Hopefully I will be able to contribute to the discussion as well.

Welcome aboard! I'm a N00B so no information flows out of my brain that would help you but there are a lot of people here that have gigabytes of experience and should be able to steer you in the right direction.
