    Hey everybody
I have FINALLY taken possession of my new 1984 VF1000F. Sweet ride thus far. It has problems staying alive though without some of the choke on. Apparently the carbs had been pulled and cleaned, but I might pull them again to make sure. I was also going to do an oil change just for due dilligence. I was wondering if it's cool to use a synthetic with the bike or not. Not sure if anyone had any clutch slipping problems using synthetics or not. Here's a rough pic of the bike just as it rolled into my shop.

Any suggestions on why the bike wants to stall when I take the choke off are appreciated as well. I'll let you know how the carb inspection goes.

there doesn't seem to be a unanimous decision that i know of. I just went in the middle and used some Belray Semi Synthetic. No problems so far but i haven't put thousands of miles on it yet

Can't really comment on oil since I run Rotela in every thing I own. As for needing a little choke to stay alive, my guess would be the jets are starting to clog. I have to keep stabilizer in my bikes year round. Here in GA the combination of ethanol and humidity was killing me. A while back I was only able to ride about once every two weeks, had to pull the carbs every time I rode. Since I started keeping stabilizer in the fuel the carbs have only been off once and that was to replace the boots, the Sabre sat for over 9 months, topped the battery off, a little choke and it started right up and runs like it should.
