Most trackable vfr

Flattrack eh? My cousin and hsi father (uncle) were both dirt riders. Uncle Kenny flat tracked on a triumph 250 of somekind and hung out with Gary Nixon and some others famous in that era. Broke his back at a race and decided to focus on his son (cousin). Cousin Mike and I have had some good talks about dirt riding. He used to motocross race a KX500. His descriptions of what it was like to ride it were hysterical. He only had it two seasons and had enough LOL! He can still dirt ride like a maniac too.

indeed i could have, a 1990 that was still on the floor in 1993 when I bought my 92 VFR as a leftover for $6735.

I've only tracked my 94' but I plan to bring my 90' as a back up after I get the suspension sorted out.

 

wow I didn't expect this many replys lol. As expected you guys have slightly different opinions on this, but I would have to agree that an RC-30 is there right out of the box. If only the didnt make 100 of them. In 25 posts no one has recomended a 6th gen, whats your guys opinion on that?

 

really any VFR is trackable, but you asked which is the best. A 6th gen would be a rather expensive option for track use compared to a typical track bike (most in the $1500-2500 range) which would price you into a Gen2-4 situation. That said the ligher weight of the Gen2, simplicity and similar power to a Gen 3 or 4 would drive that decision. A gen6 would be an awesome street bike that does the occasional track day, whereas a track only bike would be more like a Gen2. Trying to optimize price, performance and weight.

Gen6 is VTEC which any reader of this board will figure out polarizes many riders (it's usually a love it/hate it) affair. For me, The VTEC surge would be great on the street, but I wouldnt want to wrestle with it on the track in a turn on an already heavy bike. Thats me. I am sure many readers will chime in with a "its not a factor" and god bless them all. A decent Gen6 will be in the $4-5K range which in track bike parlance is a lot of cake unless the thing is going out a lot or running at the top of the more advanced groups

 

I am rarely wrong, but when I am I usually admit it. I was young, poor and stupid in 1990. The ripe age of 25 and engaged for the second time. I still have the 92 though.

 

I tracked my 5th gen with excellent results amongst the NESBA crowd. Then I switched to a Ducati and did a few days with the SBTT crowd. I actually preferred the VFR, especially at Road America where the VFR showed it had longer legs than the 748. I would try my 6th gen but now that I'm back in Canada it's just too much effort and expense besides you can pick up a prepped "track bike" on the NESBA forums really cheap so why risk a shiny VFR?
