I don't actually own a VFR yet, but expect to within the next month or two...

I've wanted one for a long time. In 1983, I was a 13 year old, obsessed with motorcycles - some things never change! My brothers and friends would get together and ride our dirtbikes and 3 wheelers to the Honda shop in our town to get parts and ogle the new bikes.

Lo and behold, in the front window, there it was: the VF1000 Interceptor. I stood there, absolutely slack jawed. This machine was so exotic, I couldn't even comprehend it. By comparison, the CB750s, KZ1000s and GS1100s I thought of as "sportbikes" suddenly seemed about as sporty as my Dad's John Deere. I must have stood and studied it for an hour.

In the ensuing years, that impression never left my mind. The Interceptors and I have both changed over the years, together, both of us leaving the "boy racer" image behind. When I think of the new VFR, I'm reminded of the old Jaguar advertising slogan - "Grace, and Pace".

I look forward to taking part in the forums....

Cool. Welcome to the board. Have you decide which VFR to get? They are all good choices, but naturally we have biases towards whichever we have. :) Just remember that red is faster...

Welcome to the group. I don't believe I have ever heard a VFR described quite that way. I like that. :thumb: Dan is right, white is faster. How do I know? I only see the white ones when they are at a stand still. lol

I too drooled over, and even occasionally rode my friend's "vintage" VFR back in the day. You obviously have good taste in bikes and I look forward to hearing which one you decide on, they are sweet bikes. (Obviously the red one's are faster, come on guys who do you think you're fooling, white? )

    Road trip

I am from Southern Indiana and will probably ride down to Nashville a couple of times next summer. I'll let you know when I plan on coming down.

To all - thanks for the warm welcome!

To me, the greatest testament of good motorcycle design is the passion evoked in the people who own them. That emotion comes through in the people that own VFRs....even if it takes the form of red vs. white!

That's what it is about for me - passion, fun, and the challenge of becoming a better rider.

I have no need of impressing my friends with a 200 HP 'Busa. I have no need to impress my neighbors with my disposable income by filling my garage with H-D cruisers (and the attendant "lifestyle"...a story for another day). I have no need to impress the wine-sniffing cognoscenti with the latest Italian marvel.

In talking with people who own them, it turns out the VFR was designed to impress one person - its pilot! Talk about going against the grain.

The styling of the 3rd generation models calls to me, but I'm still looking. I'll get to join your ranks pretty soon.

Hey Ferris, good to be with you as a newbie too. I was born in the Music City and lived most of my life around there. Still own a house in Clarksville, and bought my 98 VFR there. Look forward to chatting with you. If I hear/see of some buys, I'll pass along. I know there are a few on e-bay right now.

Thanks! Living in middle Tennessee, and owning a motorcycle, is akin to being a wino with keys to the liquor store. The roads - and people - here are among the best in the country.

I haven't pulled the trigger on the VFR purchase yet - I'm leaning toward a 3rd gen 90-93 model, but still haven't made my mind up. Some days, I start eyeballing the 1st gens. Then other days, the 4th gen. More than one isn't an option - too many bikes already.

You still live in the area?

Most of the family does. Moved to NW FL about eight years ago. I was activated in the Army and I am now in South MS. About 6 hours from Nashville now. I was there over holidays, but in the black Acura, not on the red VFR.
