I have a '96 VFR and started having hot starting problems. No power to the gauges or lights. I bought the VFRness based on reviews here and have just about got it installed. The only wire left is the 12 ga. 28" red wire with a single brass connector on the end. I think it goes to the stator. Where the heck is the stator located and what does it look like? Thanks in advance!

Stator assembly-part number 5. Located inside the left side engine cover.

pull the battery out and have it load tested before you go and do something completely uneccessary.

highly doubt your wire goes to the stator. The stator uses three yellow wires.

Dunno if this will be helpful at all to you Cisco but here's the link to Wire My Bike's '90 to '97 VFRness webpage.
There's a list of what each of the wires in your VFRness should hook-up to right on the webpage.

I have the printout that came with the VFRness in front of me. I'm not using any of the loose wires that came in the bag. This is one of the ones on the main harness. I plugged the large five-wire connector into where it needed to go and plugged the three yellow wires into a plug behind the right hand side fairing. There is one wire that will go to the positive terminal on the battery and another that looks like it goes to the negative side. That leaves one red wire with a bare brass female spade terminal on the end of it. The instructions aren't real clear where this one goes. Since it is part of the main harness, I figure it might be important.

Been kinda busy. Started a small business and it took off. Didn't expect it. Behind the eight ball right out of the gate. Can't keep up with demand. Life's funny sometimes. Guess it could be worse, but not much time for riding (which sucks). Bike's down anyway and I went to drive my Vette the other day and the battery was dead from lack of use. Can't get a break.

Under the hood? I got the whole bike practically naked and there is no hood. I'm down to gas tank and frame. Brand new tires and chain though. ; )

From what I'm reading on the Wire My Bike webpage the 10 guage Red wire (the thicker Red wire) is the battery positive wire.

The 10 guage Black wire (the 18 inch long wire) is the battery ground wire.

Which leaves the 12 guage Red wire (the thinner Red wire) which is supposed to be the wire for the starter relay.

What I think they mean here is that thinner Red wire is supposed to go to the plug connector for the magnetic starter switch, part number 8 in this pic.

It lives!!! I installed the entire VFRness kit. Only part I had left over in the bag was the solder that came with it (I chose to use my own) and the extra 20 amp fuse. I am completely satisfied with my purchase of the VFRness for my fourth gen VFR. The quality of the components is high considering the very reasonable cost of the kit. I chose to replace the starter relay connector (included in the kit) as mine didn't look so good. I soldered the connections securely before using the heat shrink tubing (supplied) to seal them up. If I have any complaint at all, it is that the instructions could use some pictures to help a novice like myself. I am now kicking myself for not documenting the job with a camera. However, Joshua is very quick to respond to emails and will give any help needed. I have to say that the stock wires on these VFRs is of extremely small gauge and it is no wonder that they have the issues that they do. It sure is nice to have my bike back but we had about 1/2" of snow and sleet last night so riding may have to wait a day or two. New tires, new chain, and now a new harness. I'm ready for spring! :party2::boobies4::party2:

And thank you, Stoshmonster. Your post #9 was very helpful.:joker:
