Picking up my 2002 VFR this week end and just sat down and started to make a list of upgrades . Now I know there is a ton of stuff on the INTERNET but thats why I'm on VFRWorld to get the skinny on all the goodies . So this is what I came up with so far
    Frame Sliders
    Power commander
    Fender eliminator
    Levers(short)
    Projector HID head lights
    LED tail lights
    Heated grips
Exhaust ? Think I'll gut the stock pipes
Tank bag (magnet) looked at the 50L Road gear Euro Sport Hauler @ $116 looked nice .
Any input would be much appreciated . THANKS

How about none or few of those.

    Fender eliminator (cheap $50 ish)
    Levers(short) ($60is ebay)

Heated grips (depending on your climate)
Tank bag (magnet) looked at the 50L Road gear Euro Sport Hauler @ $116 looked nice ( great addition for daily carrying)

The best things you can do for your bike are:
suspenssion, possible gearing change (sprockets), tires.

    Then power ommander.

    All my opinion.

+1 on the exhaust bit. I drilled the baffle on my 5th gen a bit. It sounded piss poor. Its unfortunate how pricey slip on's are but they are worth it. You're gonna want to ride the bike more than wrench on it. I recommend a good set of sport touring tires(dunlop roadsmart, michelin PR2's, Pirelli Angel ST, Metzeler roadtec etc.) if the tires are worn, or just old and dry. The tires on my bike when I got it were old and dry and new rubber will make the biggest difference in the bike.

Ride it a bit and figure out where you stand on the power delivery and handling. I wasn't charmed, so changing the gearing is the first thing I did after getting legitimate tires, and it's cheap. Fender eliminator is a must IMO, as is removing the rear pegs. Exhaust and PCIII can wait for a bit while you get familiar with the bike, but I hold those mods high in priority for several reasons; first being to rectify one of the worst stock fuel maps I've experienced, then substantial weight savings, then of course sound. Changing out the brake pads for EBC's is also a nice improvement without having to dip into the weekly hooker fund. Upgrading the suspension is great, but expensive, and depending on how you ride, it may not be needed. If it were my money, I'd put a hold on upgrades such as HID, LED, frame sliders, and heated grips, in order to do the more meaningfull mechanical and handling upgrades first.

Right on Havcar , I will definitely take your advice to heart . Makes a whole lot of sense . What exhaust do you have ? and when it comes to gear change what did you do +3 rear -2 front ? Thanks for all your advice always

I role with a Two Bros M2 titanium because it's the lightest at -20lbs from stock and I prefer the sound, but the conical Leo's came in a close second for me and are also a good choice. In terms of gearing I started with a -1f and found it to be a touch too short and switched to a +2r. I tend to do some high-speed riding so that gearing works well for me, if that's not your thing you can always shorten it up more. Maybe start with +2 and then if you still need more mids you can add the -1f for another $25, unless you're sure you won't be doing much acceleration over 120-130mph then start with the cheaper -1f and add the +2r if needed.

I should add that if you're considering a Two Bros M2 do not go off of the pics on their website, they in no way do even a modicum of justice to the looks of that system. If I get a minute later in the day I'll go snap a pic of mine and post it.

I expected someone to suggest a spare rectifier for to stash under the seat. I think that'll be one of my first purchases after reading all the nightmare scenarios on VFRW.

Thanks . I like high speed sweeper type of riding , so I think I'll go with the +2r . How long have you had your VFR ? I always look forward to your response , it seems your knowledge with this bike has been threw trial and error for some years correct ?
Last year I was looking in Littleton for a home and was just about to go threw with it until Mom had some health issues and had to move back to CA . Back in 85 we left Laguna and rode to Colorado , that had to be one of most memorable trips ever . Thanks again

My advice would be to prioritize that list. :) My first concern would be the electrical system, I'd just give it a good inspection & clean the connectors; if it doesn't have the newer reg/rec I'd install one and keep the current one as an emergency backup. Make sure you check and clean the major grounds.

I call out where they are on here: http://vfrworld.com/forums/mechanics-garage/23608-cleaning-up-new-me-old-beast.html#post181843

After that, it's likely to be the things that bother you most. ...your list looks pretty comprehensive as it is.

I don't know where you're located relative to me, but I have a few magnetic tank bags in a range of sizes that I'm not going to use again anytime soon (won't work with the new V12). ...you're welcome to one of them, maybe save a few $$$ to put towards the other farkles! :)
