    Hi guys,

I have recently accquired ohlins springs and valves for my VFR800 5th gen.

How hard is it to re-assemble/re-build the forks (I have an intermediate level of skill).

    Ever done this before?

I want to have a go at it myself but don't know if I am biting off more than I can chew..

This is a great how-to on the install, but the tuning bits should be taken with a grain of salt. For example, he changed from Maxima 5wt that has the exact viscosity you need with the Gold Valves and went to 7wt which is way too heavy. Do not concern yourself with static (so called "free") sag. You'll see that he got his head wrapped around static sag so much that he dictated his setup just to address that single number. You should only make adjustments to correct a problem when riding. If your bike is not finishing off the corner correctly, rear becomes loose under power, etc. etc. are all things that must preface any adjustment.

Here's a tip: Fork springs should have 16mm of installed preload (compression of the spring by just installing the fork cap) for a proper setup. This will help you to determine the correct spacer tube length.
