Picked up my newly mounted Dunlops tonight from my local honda dealer, and when I got them home I started inspecting them as they had original 12 year old tires on them and not a mark on either rim. Now I'm a bit teeeeeeeeeeed off because they chipped the heck out of them and covered it up with touch up paint at least 6 times on each wheel. I've always changed my own tires in the past because they did not need balancing and used pry bars with covered ends to change all my dirtbike tires and have hardly left a mark on the rim. These rims were perfect I know because I cleaned them by hand before I brought them in. Maybe I'm wrong because I dont know the procedure, thats why I need some opinions. Also they left the slimy rim grease all over the tires and wheels. Is this normal? Thanks.

no the shop that does mine has pry bars with the covered ends and they never damage the wheels at all but they do sometimes get grease and fingerprints every where

They also scraped the lip of the back rim in a couple places.

Of course it's normal when you let them get away with shitty work like that.

Got a camera and the invoice? Name the shop. This ain't 1955 any more.

Estimating you spent about $350.00 or so and if they did what you say, the fault is yours bud.

Are you drunk? They charged me 42.00 to change motorcycle tires and nick them up, I want to know if it is normal for them to nick up a motorcycle rim when changing tires.

Could be that they are sending you a message to buy tires from them next time or maybe they just don't want or need your business.

Jesus would tell you to turn the other cheek.

    Am I drunk? Nope..

The thing to do is run down to the shop and strap some of that what you consider weird shit on them and find out rather than fucking whining and asking dumb questions.

Well....As much as I would like to agree with BB. I don't like turnips either.

I would go back and challenge them about the nicks. That is plain shitty workmanship. Talk to the service people first and if you don't like their response, go up the ladder until you get to the top there. If you still don't like their answer, tell them that they have left you no choice but to become very public about their poor work. And give them an opportunity to re-consider at that point. If still no luck, then fulfill your threat to go public. Park your bike on the street outside their shop with a sign.

The grease. I say suck it up on that one. Mechanics hands, even tire monkeys, do get dirty.

Unfortunately, it does seem normal for shops to nick rims a bit, but the unwashed grease and fingerprints are a sign they don't care.

Tire machines can be a bitch at the best of times, and if you've ever used one and tried your best to leave no marks and failed, you know.

Customers can be a bit too fussy, and if your precious rims are that valuable in their pristine state, change your own tires.

Normal? Not for a skilled fitter.
They are really easy to scratch the paint is pretty thin. I do my own and have scratched a few.
I would ask for a refund of the install or something from the shop.

Problem solved. I called the owner, someone I've know for years, he said bring em in. And we got together with the mechanic who changed them and he admitted they got scraped up pretty good along the lips of both rims and covered it with touch up paint. The owner said leave them here and I will take them to my paint guy.
I learned that sometimes the lips can get knicked up as squirrelman said, it just happens, but mine was a bit excessive. Thats all I wanted to know. Thanks.

I'm glad the owner is going to take care of you. It's not uncommon to get the occasional nick in the paint, but these days, it's generally a case of the tech not caring; and if it was as bad s you describe, you were in your rights to raise a stink! It's for this very reason I saved up my pennies and bought a No-Mar machine for my garage. That and a static wheel balancing stand were the last pieces of the puzzle that means never having to go to a shop for work again!

If you lived closer I'd invite you over to use the shop anytime you needed to, but it looks like you're in Wisconsin. ...and probably a Packer fan to boot! ;)

Seriously, glad they're taking care of you; I'm sure the tech got "educated" by the owner after that! lol

    Go Bears!

    Only if you want to.

I can't promise I'll answer the dumb questions or respond to plebian attempts to present yourself as unique. The way to save yourself from yourself is to hit the archives.Jesus ain't 'gonna help ya much here. By your solution that you are tight with the owner and everthing worked out for the best smacks of the end paragraph in a romance novel. Mself I would expect better treatment and service before the fact , not after.

Thats why I change my own tyres on shops machines and take extra care to cover the jaws sometimes with fuct tape. Side note, there was a yellow powdercoated Bee Emm Double YOU pile of chit rim. Well this mother fugger was impossible not to have powder coat jumping off the rim when you did a tyre change. Spoke to someone in NYC and they told me the same thing, total bitch to do a tyre change. If your gona be a whiner you might as well get a cheese platter, or invest in a No-Mar Tyre changing machine. My quiche is getting cold. No excuse for shoddy work or letting a dirty bike leave a shop. Its your fault for continuing to go there.

One more time for Billy. He has been the same owner for over thiry years and we know each other by name and have had a number of meaningless conversations over the years, no we don't hang out. And yes, I am unique, I am nice to people, I have a crazy knack for remembering things most people forget, and I have a stalker on a motorcycle forum website. I guess that makes me unique, but not psychic.

If you click on settings at the very top of the page, then look down the left-hand menu, about half way down you'll see a link called "Edit Ignore List".

...a very, very useful feature! ;)

A Snowflake wheel on the Beemer? They have some uber hard coating on them and getting paint to stick is a bitch. Like you say, a skilled tech can do a tire job on almost any bike without trashing the wheel if they are careful. This dude just got screwed and can't cop to it.

LOL maybe time for y'all to have a meaningful conversation or two about shitty work then you won't have to lay in a case of Kleenex to dry those tears because the bad mens chipped your paint.

IMO, I think you maybe need a physic more than a psychic. A paychic might be able to address what is or what is not "normal" whereas a physic will, in gentle terms, rid you of blockage.

Is someone stalking you? It could be that nice Canadian lass but somehow I doubt it. Probably some gay dude who wants to share loafs and quish with you.

Yeh it was off some 05ish K series bike, maybe a K1200. Another crazy tyre change comes to mind too, Triumph Rocket rear wheel. You need two people to do a proper one on that one as you need four hands. Two to keep the tyre well below the bead and one to do actual mechanics of using the hydraulics on the machine. It would help if they paid the mechanic a decent wage to do a tyre change instead of $8.00 and hour. Shop gets $40.00 and the wrench gets $8.00. No motivation there.

YUK, you gota think about that one, disgusting; nice way with words though...
