The tank was stored indoors and is dry. Bike shows weather wear from being under a cover, and I figure the carbs need cleaning, brakes and hydralics will need outright replacing. I have no idea if it will turn over or catch on fire.
I just brought a 1986 vf500 back from the dead.
What do you think guys, should i go for it? is it worth the work since it IS a VFR gear cam?

Absolutely buy it, a vfr for 200 bucks thats still on two wheels. I would definitely look inside the fuel tank with a flashlight just to make sure he didnt just bring it inside. Let the resurrection begin. Let us know.

1986 VFR 750's are hard to come across since there was a tariff imposed on imported bikes over 700cc at that time. The tariff on these higher displacement imports was designed to help stimulate American motorcycle sales (Harley Davidson) which is why the VFR was available in both 700cc (tariff beater) and 750cc for that particular year. Because of this, there were less 750cc models brought to America which makes it a much more desireable bike for collectors. You easily have over $200 in parts so I say grab it as quick as you can. I'm sure you could even flip it as is and make money on it. If you do decide to pass on it I'm sure there are plenty of people on this board who would love to have it at that price.

The bike was parked for a reason; try to find out why.

Push bike in various gears to see if the engine and tranny are free.

If so, you have a more rewarding project than any VF model.

good find !@!@ Unless it had been reported stolen, you couldn't go wrong @ that price.

no pictures means it didn't happen.... squirrelie man is right, make sure the engine isn't froze up and/or the frame isn't bent... if it turns out to not be rebuildable you easily have 200 bucks in the fairings alone....

Good luck and take some pictures of said beasty

Check the VIN and verify that its actually an RC24....if it is in fact the rare dog that is the 750, then its well worth the 200 bucks to get into the bike and the frame-off project to ressurect it from the dead. I'm with the consensus here, let's see some pics. (Hell, start with the ultimate before pic with the bike sitting sad under the tree!)

    good luck dude!!

Right now I cannot even get to it due to 23" of snow all around it. At least it is covered. But I will keep all of you guys in the loop as things progress.
