Hello everyone. I have been looking around the forum for a while and I think most of my questions are answered but I wanted to see if the VFR I am looking at is the good deal in your opinion.

I am looking at a red 2004 with 2000 miles on it for $4000. Is it worth it?

Until now I've only owned supersport (gsxr, r6, cbr) class bikes and over the last three years I only did track. I want to get back to street riding now so this would be my sport touring bike.

Thank you in advance for your help.

Absolutely, go for it. That price is slightly under what I've seen on CL for bikes with substantially higher mileage. At 2000 miles, it hasn't even begun to break-in. If sporty sport-touring is what your after then the VFR is for you; basically a sportbike with some added stability and comfort, and it handles substantially better than its weight would suggest.

That sounds like a great deal if it is in good shape. Gen 6's are the very best deals I see any more and a really good bike. A pic of your possible purchase or a link to it would be nice. I promise I may not snag from under you......maybe. Maybe.....ya know a promise these days is not what it was years ago.......where is the link?

With miles like that, you would assume that the bike has got to be like new. Assuming it is, then buy it. I'm of the mindset that I will pay a premium price for bikes in that kind of condition.

Here is my take on it. That is a good price for a VFR with such low mileage and I would assume it to be in showroom shape. VFR's are very solid built bikes and other than a few minor electrical issues that affected most VFR's in the past they can easily last you into tripple digit mileage. The 6th Gen VFR was introduced in 2002 and produced for 8 years with only very minor changes over the years. Bottom line is that there really isn't a huge advantage to buying one year over another and there is no huge advantage to buying one that has only 2k mileage versus one with 15k or less assuming it has been well taken care of. Luckily most VFR owners I know are pretty anal about maintanence and don't abuse their bikes (I guess I'm the only one who wheelies their VFR  )

I've seen plenty of smoking hot deals on 6th Gens with all the tasteful mods included (hard bags, aftermarket seat, aftermarket exhaust, throttlemeister, bar-risers) for around $5000. If you are looking for a bike alone I would say pull the trigger but if you are planning to add hardbags and all the aftermarket goodies I would say keep looking and you can find a decent deal even if it has a few more miles. Should be some deals since riding season is over for so many. Also, don't forget to make sure the wiring harness recall was done on this bike since it was one of the affected years (2002-2005.) Where do you live BTW ??

Thank you all for the advice.

Bike is sitting at the local car dealer. Someone traded it in and they are trying to get rid of it. I am not sure if they have it posted anywhere on the net, my firend was buyng the car from them when he noticed the bike. Since then I stopped by to take a look at it.

I am in the southern wisonsin so the riding season doesn't start till march/april.

It's a bare bike. No upgrades whatsoever. I would definitely want to get the seat (if it is anything like honda rr which are horrible) other upgrades would come in time.

In the end I would like to add hard bags and hardwire and mount gps and radar detector. Not sure what else.

I will call the local honda dealer today and check if the recall on the harness was done.

If it wasn't I can still get it replaced free of charge correct?

The harness replacement is free, just give a Honda dealership the VIN for verification. The VFR's saddle is quite a bit more comfortable than is an RR's. I've kept mine stock because it's much easier to move around on than the aftermarkets and have done 600 mile days on it without much discomfort. That said, a lot of owners do replace them; depends on what your primary riding style will be.
