VFR Mechanic in DC area

    Greetings all,

    I need to get the 16,000 valve check done on my 2003 viffer. Bike is fantastic and has never let me down. In addition to the valve check I have a few odds and ends I'd like to have sorted and I'm looking for a mechanic that won't hose me. Suggestions?

    I'm gonna pass on the valve check as I haven't done my own yet and I don't have the special tools required to do the job, what else do you need done?

    Slutty Honda Red, I love it. Other than the oil all the fluids are original. I'd like to put in new break and clutch fluid, coolant, and do new break pads front and back. The owner of the garage where I keep the bike is cool but when the garage door is open I'm pretty exposed and I don't want to get a lot of attention. My bike is slutty red as well. Suggestion?

    if you can get out there, Shenandoah Honda is your best bet. They are a honda powerhouse and far enough away from DC to be reasonably priced. Blaylock in Warrenton is good folks (cheap) for run of the mill work.

    Stay away from Coleman (monkeys).

    I you must, Loudoun Motorsports is OK.

    OK, you have a 6th gen. The coolant is a snap and the brake pads etc. are also easy. In fact many shops can't deal with the linked brakes. Download the PDF manual from this site. Pickup a brake bleeder from Harbor Freight. The pads take a whole 5 mins per to replace. Pickup some red medium strength high temp thread lock for the caliper bolts. Careful tho most often red is heavy tight. If you cant get honda red medium get blue medium. A large bottle of dot 4 valvoline costs like $7. You can spend more for motorcycle specific.

    Get Honda coolant from local shop and then pick up a bottle of water wetter. This swap is like a 20 min task. You fush with distilled watter if you feel like it. Drain and refill. Add 10 caps of water wetter to the mix. You will be good in the summer.



    It will take you a Saturday afteroon. Then you will be all done.

    BP nailed it on the head for all the other stuff you need done, most is very simple stuff. Bleeding/flushing the brake fluid is kind of a bitch but I have a vacuum bleeder that makes it a bit quicker. I'm just north of DC in Rockville, if you wanna hook up and do some work let me know.
