Hey all! I'm a new owner of a 2000 VFR that my shop has maintained for the last 5 or 6 years. The owner bought a twin with a fraction of the mileage & made me an offer I couldn't resist. There was some skepticism initially, as I was coming off of a 98 Bandit 1200 that I had customized just the way I liked it. I'm astounded by the performance of the VFR - and the mechanical gear whine keeps me grinning too! While I've been into, riding, and around bikes for 30 + years, I've spent the last 3 working on them & managing a small bike shop too. I'm already cooking up plans for the shiny little VFR: the LSL SuperBike Riser/Bar kit is first on the list!
Hey hey man, welcome to the site! I'm in Durham... where is your shop at? Website? I'm not sure about the posting rules here so if you want, feel free to send me a pm... Have pics???
Welcome to the forum the fifth gen bikes are great. Couple thing you should know if you already do. The R/R needs upgrading do to there piece of shit nature I don't have a link to the website but its called a vfrharness that a computer fan mounted to it then keep a spare on hand. Alot of us north ga guys like to ride up 28 & highlands etc... mybe we can meet up one day for a ride.
Welcome aboard there's another Yellow there in Durham. Guy named Dave rides it. He is Y2Kviffer here.
I work at Combustion Cycles (911 East Trinity Ave) in Durham. I don't want to take the chance on breaking the rules my first day by posting a link, but it's an easy find via google, yahoo, or pretty much any search engine. You'll see us associated with a bit of everything, including vintage bikes, but we are very grey-market bike friendly too! I have customers with some unique rides (does a VFR400 count?!) and we even have some oddball kitchy stuff in the shop (MZ Skorpion Tour, Honda CB-1, NT650, TransAlp with Africa Twin swingarm/XR400 forks/Hawk GT motor bored & ported...) I get a kick out of sourcing the parts that mainstream dealers can't seem to find or finding a different solution to the problem. I forgot to grab the camera from the shop to snap some pics of my new/old ride this weekend, so I'll have to get some this upcoming week. Honestly, the bike has 47,000 miles and looks better than many year-old bikes. but, she's too stock - wayyyyy too quiet! Anyone have a decent high mount or underseat option?? I've been hands-on involved in the care of this bike for the last few years (along with quite a few other late model Hondas with similar reg/rect issues). While the vfrharness seems like a great idea, at the shop we've found the overheating to be primarily due to poor grounding so we just add a dedicated wire to a separate location for a more positive ground. My plan was simply to make cleaning, di-electric greasing, & re-seating both of the reg/rect grounds a part of my regular service schedule. Has anyone else had luck with that plan? If all else fails, the "upgraded" reg/rect from Rick's Motorsport Electrics has a great record on my customer's VFRs, CBRs, STs, and even a number of non-Honda bikes (the R1/R6 share the grounding problem...). Speaking of service schedule, are there any free downloads of manuals available? What is the most informative manual for the 5th gen?
Two bros sells a high mount micron staintune etc...if you want a under seat exhaust good luck! Wolf is the only under seat exhaust I haven't seen those systems sold for a while.
This maybe? http://bmanual.com/Honda-VFR800-FI-Interceptor-1998-2001-Service-Manual.htm Looks like a pretty nice full-service shop! Wish I had known about you guys a week ago. =l
Welcome to the site! Where exactly do you run the extra ground to and how do you connect it into the r/r.?
