I had an idea after reading the latest 7th gen bashing threads. My idea was "how about I create a poll to see what people would buy given current and past offerings and similar price points".

For instance, most of us have a favorite generation of the VFR, but what if you could still buy that generation, but at today's costs as a brand new bike, not at the deflated value.

Let's say for the sake of argument that all comparable displacement VFRs are comparable dollar values. Call it pseudobucks if you like. In my poll, the bigger bikes would cost a little more based on displacement only. All bikes would be for your use and not purchased with resale value in mind.

This is a poll to try and get an idea of what you'd truly buy if you just wanted to ride it and not worry about what kind of deal your are getting. It might take some thought, and some real honesty with yourself.

So to reiterate, this is not I'd take a 5th gen for the MSRP it was then, this is a brand new bike, but built exactly the same. You are the first owner, it is just for you, and you keep it to RIDE, not to stare at in the garage and tell people you ride motorcycles. I realize technology has changed so what I'm looking at is where different people draw the line on what tech they want.

I wonder if it is gonna be related to when you grew up, or how you ride, or a combo.

This one is a no brainer: a '99 without a second's hesitation. It's the best looking, still has the gear driven cams, and the RR is the only weak spot. I don't need the extra complexity of the v-tec and I've seen the VFR 1200 and it simply doesn't ring my chimes. Older ones are nice but don't have the looks IMO of course.

no to #1, yes to #2. This is to find out if all the hate spewed to each successive generation is just jealousy. Just kidding. I just wanted to see if there was some way to compare the different bikes in fantasy world to see if people would still pick what they are riding anyway.

For instance, my 5th gen is nowhere near stock, so I'd have to say I'd buy a 5th gen at today's costs (not deflated based on newer bikes) and add mods to it. So I'd have a 2010 5th gen VFR essentially, then have to add all my junk. So the cost to ride a brand new 5th gen like mine in my example would be more than the 7th gen in pseudobucks cause of all the mods, but less than a modded 7th gen due to displacement issues.

I'm gonna have to give it a lot of thought before I vote. I can't just flat out say, "Oh yeah, my 98 is the best there is so I'd pay the same for it as I would for the 2010".

I just cut and pasted those from wiki due to laziness so I could have messed it up. I don't think I can change it now but I'll look.

Interesting question Reg. Having ridden and owned all the gens(except gen3) and including the 7th, if I had 'puesdo bucks' to spend on a new VFR it would go to a RWB 6th gen. I can find some thing to like about all the gens up to 6th and the RWB 6th gen kinda ties them all together. So thats where i'd plonk my cash. Now the 7th, thats a differant story. i still have my 1200, it has largely been superceded by my CB1300S, which i find superior in most respects(for my uses anyway) than the 1200. I find it somewhat ironic that an old tech, twin shock IL4 can feel better than Hondas latest V4 starship?
At the moment it is languishing in my local dealer for sale...still waiting for that to happen.....not holding my breath though...!

Don't get me wrong. I love my 6th gen.But i do think that distinctive wine of the 5th gen is oh so cute. It would be a hard call between the 5th and 6th. At first I did not like the 6th Gen RWB but that has really grown on me. I think that when and if mine ever dies, I will search out a 6th gen RWB though. I just don't know about the 7th gen. The looks are starting to grow on me but that smaller tank still leaves a sour taste in my mouth considering this is supposed to be a sport tour. Maybe there really isn't enough a difference in the end to matter, but I have not read anywhere anything on that yet. I see Richard from down under already has his 7th up for sale. Hey Dick. What's up with that? IF it were a left hand drive I might buy yours off you and ship it over. Are your kilometers the same length as ours?

Well Randy, our kilometers are the same distance....but.....being as we are 'down under' they are of course 'Inverted" compared to yours. To compensate for this you simply need ride it backwards.....and up side down....

Stosh. If you keep your dentures in while you consume, you will make less of a mess when you vacate the contents of that void located on the lower frontal portion of your head. I do hope that if it was beer or good scotch, you had the decency to slurp it all back up!

    H'mmm, favorite VFR POLL?

First thought about Joey Dudes " What topics will Norcal Boy allow " then remembered SFPAs " IYHO: Ugliest Bike " but eventually went for k9style00 " Why do we like the VFR??? " amazingly close results between the 5 categories of: Appearance, Engine, Performance, Comfort, Reliability.

I would still go with a 6G. In a little over two years and 22,00 miles with my 07, I've found absolutely nothing that I dislike about it. It does everything well, and is rock-solid reliable.
