Can I replace the wheel from my 99VFR800 to the newer generation with more spokes?
And I saw something about a wiring harness recall on the 5th gen vfr800 is that 98-01??

its early in the morning, my brain officially shut off, so I'm going to bed. but thanks for the input!

I am guessing your talking aboot the rear wheel and yes you can swap oot to any other gen you want as they will all fit your bike. The eight spoke wheel is off a gen 3, 1990-1993 . The later gen wheels will not fit the earlier gens withoot some work though.

TC already answered your wheel question. I ride a 98 and I don't recall any recall (get it) I kill me. Seriously, though. Where did you hear that? I remember something about a recall for 6th gens but don't remember one for mine. I have had to replace the damned R/R, though. Maybe it was cause I missed a recall.

I was looking at some wiring issues with the earlier models on a different post. Then I saw while reading in there about a wiring recall with the 5th gen. 98-01 is that the 5th gen??? And when I bought my bike (used) from the dealer, they had to replace the charging system twice. Is that a normal problem with this bike?? I have no problems now, just every year I have to jump start it in the spring because something eats a brand new battery, even in a heated garage and started once a month for about a half hour............ strange???

Yes, those years are 5th gen VFR's.

The regulator/ rectifiers (RR) are known to go bad and cause problems.

Buy a battery tender to maintain your battery over winter as jumping your bike every year is a good way to make your charging system overwork itself charging up the olf battery and that can fry your RR.

This year is the first year for my battery tender. I have a front fork leak to tend to now, so taking apart my front end is going to be fun... Thank god for heated garages!!!!!!

Is there really a recall, or are we just talking about the r/r problem here?
