Seat Cowl Question and Intro

Hey all, I just purchased an 86 VFR 700 and I'm trying to find a white (Shasta) seat cowl for it and had no luck at all for the past 2 weeks In finding one. does anyone know where I could go for one ? I checked the forums but it seems a lot of those posts are from a long time ago. Also are those seat cowls for mine compatible with the other bikes from that year or any other year for that matter ? I bought this bike last week an completely loving it. It only has 19000 miles and is in "mint" mechanical condition and great cosmetically according to my new motorcycle mechanic (30 years exp.), He said it needs nothing done to it. everyone was just so amazed that I only paid $1500 bucks for it, I will get some photos to post for you soon. thanks for any help and have enjoyed reading all the posts for the past few weeks.

 

The seat cowl is very, very hard to find. When I bought my '86 750 back in 2002, it too was in great shape, but was missing the seat cowl. I figured I'd buy the bike and that it wouldn't be too much trouble finding one. I was totally wrong. It took some time, but I ended up buying one from a Yahoo group member from way back when. You did the right thing by posting here as somebody might have one to sell you. Check eBay and maybe randomly contact some salvage yards. Good luck in your search and please post the pictures.

regarding ebay -most of the things that I really want I have a saved search on them even though 0 (zero) came out in my search. For example if you have a search for vf hindle and you get zero results if something is posted for a "Hindle exhaust for VF750F" then they will email it to you if you saved the search. I've been looking for a seat cowl for my 93 vfr 750. One was emailed to me a while back but the biding took off out of what I wanted to pay for it. Usually you might get a buy it now emailed to you which is great.

Now that brings up the question as I am to bringing back a 86 700 from certian doom. Where can I find a windscreen? Is there any aftermarket available?

 

Lol, I have a brand new aftermarket windscreen. Should have sent it off with you when you picked up the cowl.

Toe I will take you up on that wind screen. Is it smoked? I also saw later on Supetex's build he had a double bubble, what kind is it?

 

It is smoked and have no idea what Tex has on his bike.

Not that I know of but I bet with a little modification something can be made to work that looks good.

 

I'll take the pin up girl and forget about the mirrors.

I didn't like the stock so I modified these CBR mirrors to fit, lower, wider and lighter.

I ended up buying one from vfrchuck on ebay, hope it comes out nice. one other question , Thinking about changing to an hid headlight but finding it hard to find a projector housing so I could put one in. Any ideas ? crap forgot the pics, I'll get them posted tomorrow.

 

May I ask, what exactly did you have to do to modify those cbr mirrors to fit?
