I see that there is 1 fan on the left i think for the radiator.... when I go like downtown where there are a bagillion lights within 5ft of eachother, my clutch gets weak and it get SO hot! do you think i should put another fan on the other radiator to cool faster? or just leave it alone? just wondering for some input. Like if you think the system could take another fan charging wise and if you think its really worth it. The fan kicks on now, but doesn't reduce the temp for a LONG time. Thanks for the input guys!

Dual fans might be too much load on the electrical system. I have heard of guys who hook the existing fan up to a switch so they can turn it on right when they hit traffic while they engine temp is still below 200. So they can avoid waiting for the thing to heat up all the way to 220 before the fan kicks in. There might be some threads on it in here somewhere.

Yeah, search on the manual switch. And be careful; I did that mod on my RC51 *twice* and both times the wires starting smoking and burned up while sitting in traffic!
My friend was like, "Dude, your bike is burning."

It did work OK for a while....

Some folks will go with different coolant, such as Engine Ice. I've heard mixed reviews. Some swear the bike never got over 200, others say "maybe" it ran a little cooler. If you were gonna change your coolant, might be worth a shot.

You could also try the option of distilled water mixed with Water Wetter. But be advised, since you live in MI, it can and will freeze under the right circumstances.

Others will say water wetter is a waste as well (say that 5 times fast, please) and that its no different than dish detergent. I'm not posting to debate - I'm only trying to give you options to look into.

Should be fine if you switch the relay trigger wire instead of the actual fan wire

I may give this a shot - my bike seems to run hot in traffic.

With that VTR blade setup, does your leg get cooked by the hot air coming out any more than usual or is it about the same as stock?

My bike doesn't have the heat shield installed in the right side and I notice my right foot getting hot a lot more than my legs. It was that way went I bought it.

Since I have done the VTR fan blade swap my bike hasn't gone past 220. I like it!

Mine cooks my feet pretty good as it is.. I'd be ok with a little more cooking though if it meant the bike ran cooler:smile:

just changed my coolant, nasty color. Ohwell, with 32,000 miles I felt it was time. They have that coolant additive that makes it run up to 20 degrees cooler, what do you guys think about that? Also, my bike has never made it past 220 even in stuck traffic on a 90+ degree day, interesting...........

220 is when the fan kicks on and cools the bike down. If it stays below that, then the cooling system is operating as it was designed to.
