So when I bought the bike it looked decent, my 3rd ride on it I hit a pothole in a corner and down she went............. When I saw the cost to repair the fairings, I almost fell out of my chair! The fairings alone would cost almost what I paid for the bike! And since there are no guarantees it wont end up on its side again, I have decided to streetfighter it. I have the fairings and headlight/ gauges off and getting ready to put some signals, and headlight on. for any other streetfighter guys out there, 1. How do you delete the speedometer cable? Is there a block off plate, or what did you do? 2. Oil cooler. I am going to put it right under the radiator, can I just cut the lines and use high pressure fuel line relocate it, or what are my options? 3. I will probably use a trailtech unit, simply because I already have one laying around, if anyone has used one, where are you mounting the magnet and sensor? As far as wiring, I can handle that area. Here is my bike as of yesterday: [IMG] [IMG] [IMG]

OOOO... I for one love fighters.
As far as blocking off the spedo, I'm thinking you may have to fabricate a block off, someone here may have more info. The oil cooler is something I have not messed with, I cant find any fault in your plan, let us know how that works, I may want to do the same thing. I have yet to mount a wheel sensor spedo so I'm clue less on that one. Welcome to the world, looking forward to where you go with the Viffer.

Got the wiring tucked away, all that is left is the headlight and turn signal wiring. I think I found a good spot for the vector gauge, its the "stealth" model.

fuck. I could have used those carb insulators. Meanwhile I ordered a set, for more $$, and am still waiting.

I put a vapor gauge on my DR and am generally pretty happy. Can't beat it for the price. I used the power wire for the backlight bulb to power the vapor. Pisses me off when it loses the Temp reading and I have to reset it. When I reset it, the trip resets and I lose track of mileage on the fuel tank.

Sounds like a good plan on the oil cooler.

So the ebay thing was a bust. I thought I could sell even the broken fairing parts, I know people can plastic weld, but not even 1 piece sold. I sold the instrument cluster for $5, and the brake lever with reservoir for $1 ??????????

too bad, I should have just hung on to my old bike, I got the vfr for a fair price, but now its not going to really be a vfr anymore, and I will have more $$ into it. Kinda sucks.

This is my old bike, had some good times on it. (83 virago 750)

Nice Yam, Looks like it was a fun ride. Bummer on the parts bust, but youre gonna get a kick out of the V4 when you get to really get on it.

is that muffler on the wife's bike custom, or is that aftermarket? I never understood why they put the stock muffler so low, covering up that nice open wheel, isnt the point of having a single side swing arm to show it off?

I think I will bring mine down to the local exhaust shop, they do a great job with custom exhaust. I really like how it opens up the wheel!

A few pictures of the oil cooler move. I still need to install amounting bracket, but I held it up where I want it with a piece of wire just to test clearances. No issues where it is!

Wow, are you sure about that clearance, Clarence? Did you squish the forks ALL the way down as could happen under extreme braking? The last thing you need is to hit another big pothole and lose your oil cooler...

Otherwise, looking good so far! I think you'll gain a lot of handling, braking, power and higher speed stability over that Virago. The VFR is more bike.

yes, clearance is good! I also mounted a headlight, and am working on the mount for the trailtech unit. I am adding lights for neutral, and low fuel. Should be done with that part in the next few days. I also managed to find a spot for the speedometer sensor, I'll post some pics of that later too as it is almost ready to be put on.

here is my latest picture. (finally have a black fender!)

Few more pictures! I have the trailtech unit wired up, speed, tach, temp all work! I also added 2 lights for neutral, and low fuel warning.

Proximity sensors for speedos? I've never seen that before. I guess if you're trying to save space there's no other way to do it. Nice job.

    Hi Jaybur
Wondering if you have any better pics of how you mounted your oil cooler and have you had any issues with the way you did the mod. I have been playing around with a fighter conversion on my 90 model for some time but have never been game to cut the cooler lines. Cheers
