    Hi,
Just how much mileage should i expect to get from a full tank on a '83 750f? Right now im getting about 160kilometers (about 93 miles). Is something wrong here?

that doesn't sound right to me at all. I'm not positive, but I would expect at least 35 mpg. I'm assuming the tank is bigger than 3 gallons, is it? I have a VFR 800 (1998) and I get 33-34 around town stop and go, and around 38 on the highway. I can go 150-200 miles on a tank. I edited this later: If I go 200 miles, it's running it from very full to very low and not stop and go...

Yeah, I THOUGHT something was wrong! dont know the consumption but it did seem a bit high to me. tanks capacity is 20 lit.(5.28 gallons) so i should be getting much more mileage. if youre getting around 200miles something is terribly wrong. any suggestions???

I have an '84 VF750F and I average about 35mpg; with my low being 33mpg and the high 38mpg. I use my bike mostly for commuting to work 70 miles round trip. You should get more than 93mi. I avg 140-150mi before I go on reserve. I have stretched my tank to 200 miles but then I had to start pushing. NOT FUN. Do you have alot of stop and go driving? Do you do alot of WOT riding? These could be factors. Other than that start with the easy stuff and work thru it. Check spark plug gaps and amount of spark generated. Carbs may need to be cleaned and sync'd. And the big one; valve adj. Hope this helps.

Yeah, well i do quite alot of stop-n-go riding especially in the city centre so i guess that could be one of the factors. im going out of town this weekend so ill be able to accurately gauge the consumption when im on the slab. Will let you know what happens.

    Hello Jchag,
It went pretty good thanx. I managed around 140miles before i even went to reserve. The route i took drops around 3000metres over about 20miles so on the way back i had quite a steep gradient so had to stay on the lower gears. Oh, and i had my g/f riding with me so all in all i think i got some pretty decent mileage. But my mech tells me my aircleaner is shot so that might have something to do with the high consumption riding around town. Either that or im real crappy slow rider....

    Hi,

Check to see if something has bult a nest in your airbox. Squirrels or mice or something. Prop up the tank and remove the cover of your airbox and you will likely see it is full of squirrel bedding. It reduces the air available to the motor so it sucks tons of gas.

I saw a review of a VFR on about.com or some such and it was a guy touring with it getting about 50 mpg. That's friggin awesome. I got close to 40 on my last trip I think. Probably the aftermarket pipe loses some of my fuel economy, and the tendency to take advantage of the VFRs sport bias.

I have a micron exhaust inplace of the stock exhaust. I dont know how much difference this makes but I shed about 20  pounds off the bike. My first tank was 48mpg and previously posted 49.5 on my last tank. I think I can crack the 50mpg mark if I could back off the throttle a little bit. Avg 70-80mph interstate speeds. I think the best I got on my 98 Katana was 43mpg.

That sounds closer to normal and certainly better since your original post. I would definitely change the air filter if its in that bad shape.

Just as a frame of reference... My 85 VF700F gets 34 MPG - 43 MPG depending on how agressively I ride her...

Instead of starting a new thread about the same thing, I'll just carry on from the OP's topic.

I've now had my '93 750F for a couple weeks. I took it for a service & all that jazz to get things sorted out. One of the things I was really hoping the service would help was with the fuel consumption.

I've mainly done town riding (stop n go) and a bit of open road. But not the kind of *real* open road I've been dying to do.

Now theres a few things which confuse me greatly about my bike. Firstly, I read I have a 19litre fuel tank. Yet, when my fuel gauge reads empty (really empty!) & I fill the tank, its only 11.5 litres of fuel. So either my fuel gauge is faulty (which is odd that its accurately faulty for the past 5 tanks). Or something is very strange.

The other thing which really bothers me is that I get roughly 130 - 150km off one 'full' (11.5 litres) tank. This seems a little ridiculous compared to the averages everyone else is giving.

So that leads me to the conculsion that I need to try do *something* to improve fuel economy. So what are the options available?
