    Hello everybody!!
I am joining the forum because I am looking to purchase either a 2008/09 VFR800. I used to have a Buell (Blast) as my first bike, which I've sold, and I'm looking to move to a bike that will be a great tourer and commuter bike but has a sporty look.

I've looked at a lot of different bikes (new Ninja 1000, FZ1, etc). I've always like the interceptor, but it was always a little pricey for me. There is a dealership that has a 2009 for just above $10K that I'm looking at.

Can anyone shed any light on if that is a good price, too much?

    Thanks.

    2007 Honda VFR800 Sloan's Motorcycles and ATV Murfreesboro, TN (800) 342-1681
ALso its the middle of winter don't pay top dollar.
Personallly I wouldn't buy a new bike even if I had 10k just get 2 nice used bikes. Also its 2011. Is it a 0 mile 09 or what. even so they should be able to sell it for 8000 .

Welcome. I'm down in Murfreesboro. I ride with another member MiddleTbabb quite often. There is no way I'd pay 10k for a 6th gen VFR. There are still left over 2007's for 7K on ebay. I'd just buy a used one with some miles on it. Seriously 20k miles on a vfr is just getting broken in. Here's a link for our Southeast spring get to gether at deals gap. The short version is about 10-15 of us will be getting together at deals gap on the last week of April. You should come, it's a great time!

Thank you for all your responses...Once I get my bike i would love to go riding with some of you guys....

I'm still looking for a bike, and i came across a 2006 with zero miles for 7500...what do you guys think about that price?

$7500 out the door isn't too bad but you have to ask yourself a few questions. Are you going to mod the bike? And does the bike have to be brand new? Because lets say you buy this bike and now you want an exhaust ($700), power commander with custom map ($300 + $250), better windscreen ($100), Sargent seat ($325) ect... Now your looking at $7500 for the bike and $1800 in mods. $9300!!

On the other hand if you can live with a used bike (and be patient enough to find that great deal) you can find a used 6th gen under 15k miles with most of the goodies I've listed for $5500 or less. The reliability of the VFR is amazing, so don't let a few miles on the odometer scare you away from a good deal. I've had my '04 for 2 1/2 years and have put 21k miles on her with no problems (It would have been more but I own two bikes). The big maintenance expense is the valve check (done at 16k intervals) but I've never read or heard of a valve being out of spec so I'm going to wait until the 32K mark to get mine done (which will most likely be at the end of this year).

Good luck and hopefully we can meet up for a ride when you get your bike.

Well, i'm sure i will want to mod the bike, but i really like the stock look of this one. the one thing i would want to get right away is bags (probably givi) but that would be about it...maybe a windscreen eventually.

what is the expense on doing the valve check?

    thanks

For whatever reason doing a valve check on a Vtech engine is time consuming. From reading other posts it can be anywhere between $800 - $1200 for a valve check.

Awesome...besides the valve check...which i'm not sure what they check on the valves...is there any other major issues that these bikes have?

    thanks.

A valve clearance check isn't a major issue, it's just scheduled maintenance that every vehicle is supposed to have performed. (it's just more expensive on the VFR then other motorcycles) As far as issues go some years of VFR had a wiring harness recall (just take it to the dealership and they will take care of it) and they are famous for burning up Rectifier Regulators and I've read about cam chain tensioner going bad. There are numerous threads on this forum about this subject.

Not a deal for my money, which it is not. If you are looking at a 2006, (5 year old bike) why not get one gently used, under 20,000 miles for about $5000. You better hurry up on your looking, spring is around the corner and prices will go up in March/April.
