is there any chance I could trade my 86 500 for a 09 kaw 250r. I want one for my girl. I dont need the 500 any more. Im looking for a straight up trade. is this a fair trade. I mean im trading power for age?Fair or crazy. Just thinking out loud and seeing if its reasonable!

Depends on the condition of the 500, but I would say...no.

The Ninja 250 is newer and popular, your VFR500 is old and hard to find parts.........I don't think people would go for it. Good luck though

Thermo, aside from the fact that it's kinda hard to find parts for the ol girl, if you're willing to give her up anyway, why not teach the ol lady to ride on the 500?? Should be a great starter bike, just take off all non-essential pretty things, put some engine protectors/crash bars on, and let er rip!!

I completely agree with Metallican. The 500 is not only a great starter bike, but it should be harder to outgrow than the 250. You've already got the bike that you need.

Also, I like the Lockhart fairing on your bike. I've got the same one on mine that I bought way back in 1991.

I just want something more reliable for her! I guess I'll have to put some cash up for it!

Well, if it's the age of the bike that worries you about reliability I can't really blame you. If there's some specific problem the bike seems to have you've come to the right place. Great group of guys here to help you troubleshoot and repair issues with these bikes if you're so inclined. In any case, good luck with getting the ol lady a bike and

No f'ing way that would work. No way. You're talking an ancient, 25 year old bike that even in the BEST of possible shape still ain't worth a lot and is nearly impossible to find parts for (and I have two of them, so it ain't like I'm a hater).
