Well I'm 66 years old in the body and 16 years old in the brain, I figure I got a few more years before going the trike route. I just have to keep going at it.
This interceptor has some electrical gremlins running around it. The headlight has erratic operation so I tore into the wiring diagram and wound up in the R/H switch pod (after reading previous posts here). There I discovered the "start" switch had been replaced with something else. O.K. fine, except the wiring job was not up to par. The P.O. or someone used butt connectors and a couple of them were corroded. So off to find new switch and will rewire the harness with solder and heat shrink. Then the starter blew up! Big mistake I got confused with the VF750 magna and the VF750F interceptor and ordered a new starter which happens to rotate CCW instead of CW. However, I am determined to somehow get that puppy to rotate CW.

    Here's a couple of pics

Why not just buy a bike you can actually ride.....NOW ??

Looked at without romance, that bike was never much good after the miles added up, it's no classic, and hardly worth the time or money to "restore".

VFs have well-documented mechanical issues, and little market value unless it's low miles and pristine.

It looks like you've got a great starting point. The bike doesn't look bad at all. I've restored 3 of these bikes and it is rewarding to see the end result. Have fun.

Thanks for all the positive support on this project. A couple of posts question as to why? Well here goes, I do have bikes to ride at the present time. A 2004 Harley Fatboy (solo rider) and a 2007 Harley Ultra Classic (Bagger) so when I need to hit the road I can. I got this interceptor to keep myself occupied and challenged as well as having "fun" in the process. I know that from a financial perspective its not worth it, but how do put a price on having fun? I look forward to hearing from you Gen 1 guys with hints, help, and etc. hopefully I can make some contributions to others who still playing around with these old bikes.
    Thanks again!

    Welcome!

If I could suggest, purchasing a used copy of the Factory Service Manual is a must have for any long term 1st Gen relationship. The best manuals are the ones in the original green binders as the photos are very clear in these 'first editions'.

Good luck with your project and keep us posted on the progress!

If you would like I could supply you with a PDF of a Honda Service manual, but it's a newer edition for the 700 and 750 from 83-85
I had it bound and it's never lead me wrong so far

Thanks for the offer, but I already got a PDF version, printed and put in binder. Also, the P.O. gave me a Clymer manual with the bike.
    Thanks again though!

Very nice project bike there. A year ago I picked up a 1976 kawasaki kz400 turd bucket with what ended up being a bad crankshaft for 500 bucks from a friend. The balance shaft chain guides had worn and peeled the teeth off the crank. I rebuilt that motor with new old stock parts and a used crank and rode it about 3k miles in 3 or 4 months before one of the connecting rod bolts snapped(followed shortly after by the other, then other lovely bits of the motor) I determined it was due to the crappy 3/8 in. drive torque wrench that I bought cause it was all I could afford. I ended up finding a used motor out of a '77 with only 8k miles on it. I ran that motor another thousand miles or so before selling the bike back to the friend I bought it off of for 1000 bucks. Believe me i put waaaay more than that into it, but I had fun. The bike was slow as molasses in January, the suspension was poor, the brakes were horrendous, but it got over 50mpg and allowed me to run away from my buddies '96 VFR on a twisty bit by my house. Tom, good luck with project, I hope you enjoy every minute of it. Keep 'em rubber side down and ride til the wheels fall off.

But I do "love" the V4! Honda was my second love in my early days. A Cushman eagle was my first love.
Besides the old gal and I have now bonded.

Please post the pics up. I would like to see them. Not many 83's left around to look at. Perhaps will see some in a couple of weeks at Daytona Bike Week. I'm still chasing electrical gremlins and hope to get it running again for bike week.
