so yesterday was the first day I could get my bike out of the garage after the snow here in north atl, I go out and fill up the tank and ride around for a bit, I'm doing about 50 in a 45 mph zone just cruising, not doing anything crazy and I am about 20 feet from a light that's green and there's a truck that's been sitting in the turning lane for some time (turning left coming towards me) he pulls out when I'm about 20 feet from the light and doesn't even really try to get out of my way, I hit the brake and instant stoppie, my very first one at that, I was looking in to the bed of the truck and missed him by maybe 6 inches. I'm just glad there wasn't a pile of salt or something were I did that because if I didn't get killed by that truck, I probably would have been hospitalised for quite some time and I would have to hear how stupid it was of me to buy a bike... anyway, I thought I would share my near death experience with everyone.

Glad to hear everything ended up alright and upright!

I remember my first (and only) stoppie......VERY similar situation. I'm very fortunate the bike I was on (SV650s) was fairly light/stable or I'm sure I would have dumped it.

Here's some good news though - your little adventure has made you a better (read: smarter) rider. Congrats!

with my oem mitzlers it was really hard to do stoppies. tires had to be hot, the road had to be pristeen, and i had to weight up the front end alot. but with my new michelin power 2ct's its fairly easy. pretty fun when you get its right, but itll make you pucker up a bit if you wind up skiding the front tire a little. the brakes do feel a bit wooden though, not sure if its the lbs or just shity factory pads.

Can and did... Right after buying the 05' I was commuting home when a nut job on the freeway slammed on the brakes to avoid a plastic bag (!!!!!) and I grabbed a handful and lifted the rear wheel at least 6-10" off the ground. Coming from an old 30 year old bike there's a huge difference in stopping power!

Omnivious, good job keeping control of the bike and saving your bacon! Do you think there is anything you could tell us about what you learned from the situation?

all I could say is watch out for idiots, there's really bothing you could do about other people being stupid and you can't stop at every green light to make sure there's no idiots, and stoppies are completely possible with factory everything but it's no controlled stoppie for sure, I thought I was gonna lose it because the road condition like I said wasn't all that great, like the salt and all...
