Was the VFR designed to not have the front end come up or is that simply due to the weight? Seen it done in magazines so it must be possible.

The 2000 model I bought a couple months ago had breaks on both sides of the front fender where the bolts attach and a friction mark on the top center. Other than that the bike looks like new, that kinda tells me this bike is either too heavy for wheelies or the guy I bought it from is an idiot, probably a little bit of both. I replaced it with a new one for $150.

I can get the front end up just by rolling the throttle in 1st. I don't really like doing them though and certainly don't get the front very high or leave it up too long. But it is definitely doable. I don't know how to slip the clutch to make it wheelie but I'm sure that would work too.

Yeah, it'll do them. It just takes some work and it is hard on the clutch after a while. A gixxer, cbr, or ninja are easier bikes to do wheelies on.

You can wheelie an Electra Glide if you have the stones to drop the clutch.:lever:

I wouldn't mind knowing how to pop and ride a decent wheelie, but I am also scared of wrecking my pride and joy. I waited a long time to get the VFR and don't want to take a chance flipping it. The wheel base is a little longer and the bike is heavier than the race replica bikes.

I too ride little power wheelies in first gear where the front comes up about six inches or less. Like everyone else says, I just whack open the throttle and it comes right up. One time I sanpped it a little too much and the bike rose fast and high.....got scared snapped it right shut and hit my nuts on the gas tank. LOL. It was pretty funny.

well, it's slightly heavier in the front like just about every other sportbike, but it will pull it up. the trick is to not let it come down hard or you'll get the aforementioned symptoms. Mine will bring it up in 1st and 2nd if I'm deep in the RPMs. Possibly in third if revved out and using a hill to lighten the front. It quite often floats the front when I come over a hill at a brisk pace and stay in the throttle. It's rough on them just popping it up and letting it fall, though.

Sounds like you guys don't mind changin' the clutch and fork seals a little more often. I personally see the VFR as a high speed tourer...get a 900RR if you wanna do wheelies boys

I guess it's because I'm still a novice rider with only 12,000 miles under my belt... but I can't wheelie. There's some kind of "self preservation" circuit in the motorcycle riding part of my brain that won't let me do that with the clutch.

I'm pretty sure my new VFR750 will wheelie pretty easily though. I did a near-full-throtlle start the other day and the front wheel got awfully light. It all has to do with where your ass is... ass further back = unload the front wheel = wheelie.

Don't worry, I've been riding for years w/ likely well over 200K under my belt, I have a hard time wheelieing the VFR but thats just because I'm kind of a fat bastard:tongue: If I sit way back on the seat it comes up easy but then requires feats of strength to pull forward on the seat & balance it.
