"What were your reasons for downsizing? What are the pros & cons of both bikes? (I've thought of upsizing down the road....) "

FJ1200 and VFR are probably similar on top speed, however, FJ is very powerfl at the lower end. I once read on a Motorcyclist that FJ's 0 to 60miles is under two seconds (2.9seconds on the data sheet) and one of the most powerful bike in that regard.
It means on street or highway FJ is a very fast bike.
You can open throttle fully from 1500rpm, 40km/hr at the 5th gear(The top gear) without any down shifting.
I changed my bike because of the 260kg weight although I didn't realize VFR wasn't much lighter until I changed my bike.
Acceleration is very smooth from crawling speed without any hiccups.

    Getting Younger Every Day...

I'm fifty-two and completed a multi-day, multi-state trip on my VFR in October. From Nebraska through Kansas and Missouri to Arkansas and back. A total of 1400 miles which included cold temps, rain and 30 mph crosswinds.

My secret, I hit the gym, eat better than any time prior in my life, and I now weigh what I did when I was 35.

I am now 58 pushing 59. I just put the first 30 miles on my new 08 VFR. I also have a Harley Super Glide. It is very comfy for me. I have bad arthritis in my thumb joints...no cartilage left...so the VFR hurts a bit.

But I am probably going to have my joints rebuilt...surgery..in hopes it will relieve the pain. Not stopping me from riding the VFR..it is sweet.

Your wife said you are too old for "that" bike? I think she meant to say "SHE" is too old for that bike and is afraid you are wanting to start working in the electrical field...working 220 to be specific! I bought my 87 2nd genoff the showroom floor in 87, sold it later and then bought it back, and will always have it...and, I am 49, and on the closer side to 50...too old.? HAH!

I'm 45. I describe my VFR (3rd one) as a sporty, adult, street bike I can ride all day. On the wife topic.......my wife is encouraging me to get the new VFR1200F! She's a keeper. Ride safe.

Nice, better keep that one for sure.

I am only 46 but the affordable track time is my main thing and my wife supports it as well. As I mentioned above, riding with "my peers" is just awesome and inspirational. VFR or not, but I am working on the 86 VFR

Hello all. I am semi new to this site. Joined earlier this year. I bought an 07 VFR in July. I am young (37 yrs old)so I hope yall don't mind me posting here. I got peeps making fun of me since I bought my VFR and I have been riding since I was 6 yrs old. Mostly dual sport and off road and I decided to do something different. I needed a "first" street bike that was for my fitting. Something sporty and yet all around touring too. I have been riding every weekend when I don't have to work. I am racking up miles and loving it. This bike is a great bike. Even keeping up with some of the douches that ride the CBR, RX-6, Gixxer. Nothing wrong with those but it'a all about the attitude. I almost bought a Ducati but I knew in my heart that it might be a fun bike on 100 mile trips but beyond that it get uncomfortable and you start to ache. I borrowed a friends Duc and it was a hoot for short distances. The VFR is an awesome bike and perfect for what I need. A friend told me I should look into the VFR's and I am glad he did. He's talking about going to the Laguna Seca Raceway next year. I live in Texas! I need to get the saddle bags if I decide to make the trip. I have been reading yall's posts and have learned that it's not about the age. It's about the attitude and a good attitude at that!! =D

I'm 46 in less than a month. Bought the VFR two months ago and have clocked 5000 kilometers (3000 miles) since then. Actually did the first oil service yesterday. Yip, yip I am single, got traded in myself a while back but love it out here on the shop floor! In any case, my daughter preferred dad as guardian thus she now has the car and my bike is my daily transport, rain or shine. Love it.
The AT (XRV750) is nice but not that comfortable on a long haul. In any case, I blew a crank on that one so if any of you have one laying around,, donations welcome! Hehehehe!
In any case, what i wanted to say, at 46 I am at last mature enough to appreciate a bike which was obviously designed for the more mature rider. And yes, age has nothing to do with it.
    Regards....

We believe what we tell ourselves, so be careful with your self-talk.

    Born winter 1948. Alberta.
Just purchased very low mileage mint '02 VFR. This machine is a flat-out terrible beauty and a great way to underscore the fact we are a long time dead.

Eat day up and be free from fears which are not really there.

    I am going on 66.
I have been riding since I was 16 when I mounted a lawnmower motor on an old bicycle.
    I now have a 75 CB360T, two 83 Nighthawk CB650SCs and a 2000 VFR. ( No wife since 1982 )
I bought the Y2K about 2.5 years ago and have put 37000 miles on it, 90% in the California twisties.

Sorry guys but I gotta jump into this one.
No offense, bo what does she want you to do? Dry clean and crease your jeans, buy a Vulcan or HD, rattle peoples windows with straight pipes, or buy a 1300cc interstate monster and put dual "live to ride "flags on it to " look your age??? What the ???? Do guys ask "honey, do I look fat/old on theis bike?"
She is lucky you are riding a bike that 19 to 24 year olds on my street think are cool. Real cool. No skulls, dragons, or fantasy decals....just straight forward bikes that perform. I ride an '86 vf500, a '76 BMW r90s, and a 2000 Ducati 750SS. The SS has my wifes quote on it in small script letters "you'll kill yourself on that thing".
    Maybe.
But I am 57 and put 2 kids through college, and my wife figures I can ride till I kill myself or get hit by a bus at a crosswalk ...all looking my age...thats why I married her 32 years ago.
I think in 3 years I'll by a Blackbird just for the hell of it.

My riding buddy's sage quote if he read this posting, is " nothing pisses off a female more than a man at his leisure".

Age is an expression of maturity, hence; a gentlemens sportbike.

    Old, I hate old people.

I am 66 with a RWB 07. My riding friend is 83 and we ride from 200 to 600 miles once every 2 weeks. He has an nt700 and has put over 250k on ST1100s. Who you calling old?

53 and 7 days. Bought my first VFR this summer on my way back from racing motocross. It's a 1990 with 57,000 Kms. Had not ridden on the street for 25 yrs. Wow did I miss out! Bought my second VFR two months later. Another 1990. This ones mint with only 18,000 Kms. This pair bookends my race bike real nice in the garage. Photos to follow. See you all out there!

Don't get mad, just get on the bike. Tell her to either get on the back or go watch a movie. I am 66 in June. I got on my first bike, a 5th gen VFR two months after my 60th birthday. I got my 6th gen this past August just about the anniversary of mounting the first bike. I had never owned a bike before. The first words out of some mouths were, "are you in some kind of mid-life crisis"? People can think what they want to think. The bottom line is, I am having bunches of fun, meeting people I would never have met, going places I would never have gone. In other words, I am living. Just take the safety course, wear your gear, and ride defensively. You're a pretty lucky dude, I'd say. Brand new out of the crate, huh!!!! Are you going to mount pics of it coming out of the box???

    WoW...page 14. I guess your started something.
