    Got the exhast clamps today.
they are bicycle seat post clamps and I just grind out the little ridge on one side that prevented it from sliding down on the tube.
$5.06 each. And $1.40 for each bolt.

Much better than anything in the car world or motorcycle world.
There was one nice clamp from Europe, but it cost $45.00 for one clamp.

    Mufflers next project.

You have admirable pipe bending and welding skills, Don, but any set of pipes is a compromise between tweeking low or high end power, and with a hardtail cruiser, lower is better.

    You say it sounds like a nitro-fuel dragster.....and that's a good thing ?????????? :homer:

When I put the mufflers on I will know the end result. The head pipes are about the same length as the ones I had before. If I used the same mufflers I had before I know they will work perfectly.

I am going to try the smaller sausage style mufflers though.
But from what I have been reading, the larger the muffler, the deeper the sound.

It would be real easy to come up with a set of great-looking pipes that don't work well on your engine, bad scavanging, low gas speeds, flat spots at different rpms so bad you'll wish you had the original pipes.

But i guess a home-built cruiser is all about looks, not real performance, and like them Harley dudes with wallets on a chain, lotsa noise is an acceptable substitute for actual power.

It is NOT easy to come up with a great set of exhausts that do NOT work. It takes just as much work as "coming up with pipes that do work. As far as style... Harley Davidsons and Hondas have won road races, dirt track races and many events with every type of exhaust imaginable. And none of them stick out past the rear wheel no matter what the varibles are. Matter of fact almost all motorcycle exhausts stay within the confines of the total length of the motorcycle. A far as scavenging and negative pressure waves, it always varies, but every styles works. Most all Honda engines from the factory for the street have power curves that spread the power throughout the RPM range. That is controlled mostly by the camshaft. There is a formula for determining the length of the exhaust and it uses the opening of the the ehxaust and intake valves and is a simple formula. The Honda VF1000r had the same problems every v4 has. That the front two exhausts come towards the rear of the motorcycle and the rear two exhausts have to go to the rear of the motorcycle or meet in the middle bottom of the motorcycle. There is always compromises. Honda chose 4 into one into two. That was because it was a street motorcycle. On their most successful racing machines the exhausts were always separate. Now on modern racing bikes there is no choice. It must be one large garbage can exhaust because 4 of them would not fit and leave clearance for cornering. They are trying to get 4 INDIVIDUAL exhausts up high and what does that tell you??? I have the freedom to experiment because am not racing. If you were racing you would try all the combos that will fit and corner and weigh the least amount possible and run them on a dyno. I do not have to do that.

BTW...I have heard motorcycles that sounded so good that it did not matter to me that it was a few less HP low on power.

And do not worry, my bike will not be so loud that I would embarrass YOU.
Just like when I play the blues, I would not bend a note to the incorrect pitch and embarrass all the other blues players. LOL

you know donald as long as this exhaust puts a smile on your face, thats all that matters. you could possibly make more up top with biger pipes or spread the power out with cross over pipes and dyno tuning... etc. but you are really thinking out of the box and doing different shit here, which i really respect. keep up the good work.

Today i received the 2 final mufflers of the total 4 sausage style mufflers.

I get the shim stock tomorrow t make up the difference between the 1-5/16 muffler and the 1-1/4 header tube.

Each muffler had a washer thing spot welded in both ends as well as a perforated tube and fiberglass packing. The holes in the washer baffles were 3/8 and i drilled them in steps until all the washer baffles had 5/8 inch holes in them. Not much noticeable difference.

OK....Got the carbs synched. They were off just a little.
I swear the next time I have the carbs off I am going to put a flexible cable adjust on every single carb!! Especially #2.

    1 & 3 are not too hard but #2 is a real !@#$%!!!!
    #4 is not adjustable.

It's looking good. Got to tell us if it runs any different. Reminds me of the original CB750 with it's four pipes.
