Had an embarrassing, and luckily safe, incident today. From a stop sign I made a right turn, over accelerated and the bike spun out from under me (this likely was at only about 10 mph). The bike spun on the ground about 360 and landed about 15-20 feet in front of me. Amazingly there was just a couple of minor scratches on the lower fairing (hardly noticeable and can be buffed)and passenger foot pegs, worst scratches on the engine case. As I was on the ground I saw the bike pivoting on the frameslider. Obviously this saved some major damage. Only need a new puck for the Oggy knobb. I am a true believer in frame sliders now, at least for something at low speed.

glad to hear they worked for you. I almost slid the rear end out before like that on cold tires when I wasn't used to the VFR.

Must have been the cold tires because I made the same turn, the same way for several years.

I'm bummed about the scratches, but the Giants winning the Superbowl later that same day made that feeling go away!

Glad to hear that there's minimal damage. Since you got experience...where are your sliders attached to and did you notice any other damage from where they're attached?

S.O.B. I just jinxed myself. I ordered some frame sliders on Thurs. night and on Fri. morning I put mine down in a similar fashion. 1st time I've been down on the street in 8 yrs. S.O.B. (Did I mention that I've never had frame sliders on any bike?) Broke my R mirror, scratched up my bar end, foot peg, engine case, lower faring, rear faring, headlight faring, S.O.B. Not too bad (meaning no cracks) but still. That was my favroite side of the bike. Bright side: I see one of those custom paint jobs with a giant red Honda wing on the right side in the near future.

olivino, please elaborate on how your frame sliders attach. Are they the ones that require cutting the fairing? Sounds like they are worth the money! Glad you werent hurt in your fall.

I believe the wing logos are just stick-on graphics, I see them on Ebay. You only have to paint the fairings a solid color, & then apply the graphics. They look good.

The Oggy knobbs I have can be seen on this post:
    http://vfrworld.com/forums/general-vfr-discussions/11419-oggy-knobs-anyone.html#post63507

No cutting the fairing (called by Oggy no cut type) to install. They are heavy steel and unlike HPC, do not extend that far over the radiator. The extension piece did not bend and there was no radiator damage. They therefore can handle the weight of the bike without bending. I only have minor fairing scratches about the height level of the Kickstand and the engine case is scratched-not damaged, minor footpeg scratches, minor bend in foot brake pedal-can probably be bent back. But absolutely still perfect otherwise, not even a scratch on the bar end! Woosh, a lesson learned that was not expensive!

had the exact same thing happen a couple of months ago on my VFR. I think the combo of cold tires and a manhole cover on the corner helped. I also managed to dislocate my elbow which sucked and bend the left clipon, scratch the lower airing and snap the footpeg off. So where do you get these frame sliders?

    Here's the website http://www.promotomelb.com/pdfs/OK548-549.pdf
The cost was $300 + shipping AUS, in USD it was less than $300.
They don't take online orders from the US yet. You can call and order over the phone:

That's pretty steep for frame sliders. Usually they're $40-$70. But I guess it's still money well spent if you put them to use.

I think the cost are so high due to the materials used in the bracket that attaches the sliders to the bike. It needed to be engineered to be very strong due to the fact that the attachment point is about three inches from where the slider pokes through the corner of the fairing opening by the radiator. I think they use some composite materials in the bracket so that it can support the weight of the bike This bracket is the part that keeps your from having to cut the fairing.

Update, as mentioned above the Oggy bars worked great-worth the investment, I just sanded and buffed to a shine the part of the Oggy puck that was scraped and it's looks like new. For the engine case, I lucked out and found at Home Depot a can of Rustoleum spray paint-gunmetal metallic which matches the case color. With a little sanding, primer, the engine case also looks new-it was about a 1X2 inch area that was scratched. The Dealer said the heat of the engine case is not so great that it would affect regular paint for metal.

Regarding the cost of Oggy Knobbs, I just got a quote from Kenma--I talked with Peter Lucas. They are v. polite and helpful. The cost is $520 USD including shipping. He said the retail price has always been $500 AUD plus international shipping. The dollar isnt doing so well right now, but the Aussies arent tied to the Euro...yet.

Olivino, this is off subject but if you wouldn't mind, check out the thread on How many R/W/B 2007 bikes there are. The last reply was looking for a serial number on a Candy Red machine. Thanks

I am going to be placing an order for a set of their no-cut Oggy Knob frame sliders for my 2008. The price I was quoted was $300 plus shipping. I am mentioning this here to see if anyone else is interested in ordering a set and combining the shipping to the US and maybe, getting a bit of a break on the price. They make them to order now since the VFR has not been sold in Australia for a couple of years.

If you're interested, please let me know ASAP. I'd like to order mine in the next 1-2 weeks.

    Thanks,

    Dee

    Oggy Knobbs

Regarding the sale of the VFR800 in Australia, I am just repeating what the owner of Promoto told me in his email as to why he has now gone to making them upon order rather than having a couple of sets in stock. I don't have any first-hand knowledge.
