    which bikes are these?

Local Honda dealer can obtain most parts. Some parts for 1st gen are becoming harder to get.

Jamie D does suspension parts. Anything engine performance isn't worth the time or money. cosmetics, ergonomics etc are probably only going to be found used on ebay etc.

No doubt for some owners this is true.

It really depends on what one's goals are and what you would like to get out of a project bike.

VF engines are not the basket cases many make them out to be but with this in mind there are many caveats to owning a first generation V4.

    Hi Tink,

I guess the question is more - if someone wants to modify an VF engine and has realistic expectations why be a killjoy?

    Wrenching is fun.

Wasn't being a killjoy, just realistic.

    And you're sensitive. :tongue2:

    LOL

    Not so, Tink.

You know I have a lot of respect for what you have accomplished on your project bikes.

My perspective on bike building is arguably not always budget driven. I say this as with any project bike practicality may at times take a back seat to the build.

This said, suspension upgrades, wheel upgrades, brake upgrades, new HP valve springs, hardfaced cams and rockers - you bet, they're all on my project bike's clipboard.

I am not interested in adding high compression pistons, increasing the displacement or wrangling with fuel injection but if someone did go for one or more of these on a VF500F - I'd be right up front asking questions with a big smile.

I didn't mean to suggest otherwise in my post above.

I meant that if a VF500F owner decided to push the envelope on the engine's design I would be in front row asking questions and gleaning info on how they went about it!

I totally respect a builder who puts reason ever so slightly aside on their project bike and swings for the fence.
