Well, actually I wouldn't say eliminator, maybe "minimizer." As we all know, money is REALLY tight, so I decided to just start cutting away. This was a free mod, which is always my favorite.

    Started out stock like this.

1st I removed the plate (duh) and its little holder, and the license plate light...

Then I knocked a few holes in the bottom of the tail light. I intended for these to be a little cleaner, but apparently it is pretty thin, brittle plastic. The small pilot hole went just fine, the bigger drill bit just kinda knocked a few holes in it. These holes let out enough light to light up the plate, and be legal, without that big ugly light hanging there. I glued a piece of clear plastic over the holes.

Then I got out the dremel and a file, and cut away.

Remounted the license plate in a few new holes. And we're all done.

I think it looks pretty good for a free mod. Whaddya think?

ive seen some guys add a small LED light basically where the OEM reflector is, that looked pretty clean.
i would like to do similar, but leave just enough to catch the plate bottom mounting holes as well, and add the LED.

    *** now for the threadjack-

ive really been considering getting the long delkevic can. i think they look good,
and are reported to sound good also, and the bang/$ ratio is right for me at approx $160

ive seen a few pics of G5-VFR with the delkevic mounted, but...
the ones ive seen "appear" to have the can running at a lower angle than OEM can and the bodywork
that would obviously be driven by the bend in the included mid-pipe, and its installation.

your pic looks to be very close to the OEM angle, and looks pretty well aligned with the bodywork.
its the 1st pic ive seen where the delkevic can actually looks properly "aligned" on a 5G-VFR.

can you please tell me about the can, and the install if you did it yourself?
and possibly another pic better showing the can and bodywork at the rear?

if you did the install, i would like to contact you about details of the mid-pipe and clamps and such.
thanks in advance for any insight on the delkevic.

Hey nice bike ricko, I've got the same pipe and the same roadsmart tires. I love the pipe, great price, fits well, and sounds perfect. I like the mod you did with the rear fender, might do that during the winter here. Think I might try and find some of those license plate bolts with the built in lights for the plate. Out of curiosity, how many miles do you have on that rear tire?

ricko2, thanks for the link to your can install. i did not see it before.
it sounds like you and davis5g are both happy with the delkevic.
my 5G sounds like a sewing machine (OEM can) compared to my 86-750 with supertrapps
im guessing that both of you guys are running the delk in the "free-flowing" mode?
if so, im hoping thats its sounding great rather than being too-loud.

your link has a pic that appears like the new can is a bit more "angled" than in this thread
i guess that its possible that its just a camera angle thing.
and that the longer can makes any angle diff even more apparent

also- did luke at delkevic-usa send you guys the clamp for the mid pipe to collector joint?
i heard that the OEM would NOT fit, and that early on , luke was NOT sending that clamp.

my other idea is to mount it high, with a custom made SS mid-pipe.
there is a race-wrench fab type guy close here locally with madd bending skills.

PS- it must be a 5G thing, as i also have the roadsmarts on mine.

The delkevic pipe comes with both clamps. There is definitely some wiggle room as far as getting the pipe to angle how you like it. As far as the sound goes, I have the full length can(18inch I think) and it has a nice aggressive sound but not obnoxious with the silencer out. With the silencer in it is only slightly louder than stock but with a very nice tone.

I did the same thing you are doing but just mount the plate as high as it can go and ditch the reflector. I also cut out the bottom of the lens with a little cut off wheel on a dremel and epoxy a clear piece of plastic in place. And just use 2 bolts in the bottom of the plate to mount it. [IMG]
