What range could I expect from a full tank for a late model VFR?

    Thanks,

    Dave

Late model as in 6th gen? Lets just say your butt will get tired before your tank goes empty.

I get about 170-200 miles out of a tank on my 5th gen.

On my 6th gen I have about the same experience as Bweiss on his 5th gen. At around 170 miles my gauge is down to the red blinking reserve and I run out of nerve and tank up. At that point there's still over a gallon in the tank so it's just about 200 miles until you become a pedestrian.

I should point out that my bike has only 2,900 miles on it so it's still breaking in and there may be a bit more range to come.

On my 99 I took a trip from Pittsburgh PA down to Hanover PA near the York area. It was half superslab and half 55 mph two laners(well that was posted speed, I did around 70 most of the time). My low fuel light started flashing just before the 200 mile mark. I milked it to 217 miles on that tank and she took almost 5 gallons when I filled up. Got 47 miles per gallon. On longer trips on open roads you should be able to get mid to high 40's for mileage and be able to go close to 200 miles. Now if your doing short trips in town you'll see the low fuel light on sometimes before 170 miles, and get around 40mpg.

Just took a trip to southern CA and I was able to squeeze out 200 miles on a full tank on my 07'. I still had about a half gallon left but didn't want to push it. My average commute sucks a tank dry in about 160 miles of heavy lane splitting traffic. I think that's about average for a 6th Gen.

I've pulled 215 miles under highway conditions with with a pint or so remaining. Under more spirited conditions it's more like 180 miles.

I will be doing a pair removal/block and some minor changes in adjustments. will know more once spring arrives here( mid march to late april)

    Gentlemen,

All of the replies and very helpful data are very much appreciated. Definitely boosts my idea of the VFR as a touring bike.

    Thanks again,

    Dave

I,ve gone 216 miles with light blinking. Put in just over 5 gallons. I always run it 'til the last bar blinks. Depending on conditions I am pretty confident you can always get 200 before you run out. If conditions are good last bar starts blinking about 185.

I have made two very long trips from British Columbia, slabbing down the I-5 to central California. Can't remember why. And I was loaded to the hilt. I wished I had kept track of my mileage cause it certainly would have been interesting to see the difference between fully loaded and just you and the bike. Maybe I will do that next time.

On average late model vfr's like the 5th and 6th gen should get around 40 miles per gallon under spirited but not stop and go traffic riding. When the speed picks up and evens out on the slab or slowly winding two laners, the bike should be able to get 45 miles per gallon. My personal best being 48.

I rode 237mi. and put 5.1 gallons in the tank. That included a couple of spirited runs down the dragon (rt, 129).

When I had my 3rd gen I consistently got 200 miles before I even thought of filling up.

I've got as low as 38MPG & as hi as 53MPG on my 5th Gen. If you do the math, that equals 290 miles on a tank. I achieved the 53MPG on scenic back roads in north east PA. I normally average around 45MPG.

    KC-10 FE out...
