Got the oil analysis results back from the second oil change on my '07 sixth gen and am disappointed with the story it tells.

The executive summary is Honda HP4S synthetic w/ new filter went in at 700 miles and changed out at 2800 miles, shows normal break-in metal numbers but significant viscosity breakdown. What went is as a 10W-30 (9.9 to 11.9 cSt) came out as a xxW-20 (8.7 cSt) after only 2100 miles. Amsoil 10W-30 went in this time, will report back on how it does later.

Sorry I can't attach a copy of the Blackstone report; the pdf is a little larger than the forum allows (or alternatively, I'm incompetent on how to do it).

Speaking of incompetence: The thread title is wrong but text in body is correct; it's Honda HP4S full synthetic.

yes, very interested. Love testing and real facts.

How much did the analysis cost you?

Blackstone charges $25 for the basic analysis and another 5$ for TBN (total base number). TBN is about how much of the stuff they put in the oil to conter acid build up remains. My experience from previous tests is that if you're changing oil on any kind of reasonable basis you don't have to worry about it. For example the last change on my VW Passat at an 8,000 mile interval showed the TBN well within acceptable limits.

I've used HP4S since the 8,000 mile mark (three changes); I guess I won't be using it again. That is shockingly low mileage for a synthetic to breakdown. I've heard from others that, from a performance standpoint, the Amsoil performs nicely. I would be very interested in seeing your Amsoil numbers once they become available.

    Thanks for the informative post.

Good to know there is a lab that has reasonable rates, the closest one to me charges 65$ plus I have to buy the collection kit (must be in their kit or no anaylis)

    thanks for the link
