JFYI. As recent as a couple weeks ago, here in BC, a woman was convicted of an offence where she struck two people while under the influence of alcohol. One of them died. It was a four or five year old little girl who was off the road feeding horses with her aunt. Off hand, I don't remember what the offence was as there are many here that can be used. She was sentenced to only 5 years!

At least down there, your judges are willing to put them in jail for some reasonable time. But agreed it should be more. Here our judges are pathetic at best in their sentencing.

Jail is not a good deterrent to crime. I think we have proven that. But while a person is in jail, at least public is at a lesser risk of being victimized by many of these worthless waste of valuable air.

Judges are so far removed from the day to day feelings of the public. I have no idea, where they get the notion, that they are in a better position to gauge what the public interest is when it comes to sentencing. Our justice systems are in major need of overhauling. Maybe we should strike juries for the sole purpose of sentencing. Juries made up of our peers from a good cross section of real society, not those who are kept safe from the day to day shit that we ordinary citizens have to put up with. And that is usually done using my tax dollars.

Tink, I agree with just about everything you said here. And yes, a shorter sentence may be just what is needed to accomplish the goal of rehabilitation. If one acknowledges their wrong doing and accepts responsibility, and takes positive steps to correct their errant ways, then by all means. But, is that not the same as saying a sentence is supposed to be a deterrent to a crime?

If the offender does not acknowledge he has done something wrong, or has no intentions to correct his ways, then leave the fucker behind bars and protect the masses from his criminal ways.

What ever happened to the tried and true, and simple, disembowelment procedure? If it was good enough for Braveheart, it should certainly be good enough for this guy. Let's keep things simple, huh? Why reinvent the wheel?

This may be a thought that will be squashed, run into the ground, and the after much ridiucle, dismissed and forgotten. but here is it:

Shit happens, accept the price,
responsiblity is a community thing, not individual.
it doesnt matter how hard you squeeze, you cant get blood from a stone,
even if a judge sides with you, the other person just files chapter7 and is off free.
The system doesnt work at being fair, its fair in that it doesnt work for everybody.

IMO, we don't need all that fancy stuff when we could just let ol Cyborg loose on these guys for free. Just toss him in a cell with the bad guys and turn out the lights.
