I bought a set of the OEM bags from a guy that sold his VFR. Unfortunately when he doesn't have the spacers that go between the bracket and the grab rails anymore.

Does anyone have either an extra set of spacers or any suggestions on creating a surrogate pair?

You are asking about the rubber spacers, right? I have an old set you're welcome to but they are damaged. You may be able to get a replacement set from Honda but you'll have to talk to someone in corporate Honda's Customer relations. I got a new set that way but it took the guy 2 months and from his Em, he had to move Heaven and Earth to do it. You may have an easier time now since it's been done but have you thought about the top case kit? If you install it, you will not need the spacers.

I believe that they come with new grab handles these days though I could be wrong. If not, you should be able to source a set of them from Honda North America direct. When I called about the missing Interceptor badges on the used bags I purchased, the guy personally tracked them down in two hours and they arrived at my door three days later with no charge for parts or shipping.

Unfortunately, I wasn't able to get a hold of honda America before my move to japan. But after seeing the roads in japan I think I am going to get the top case and figure it out from there.
I have to ask though has anyone tried riding in rain with water without the spacers on?

Is the 2003 supposed to have these spacers? When I bought my '03 it didn't have the grab rails. I bought a used set on ebay, no spacers.

All 6th gen (2002-2009) are supposed to have the spacers with the bags. I think it is mostly for aesthetic reasons as they aren't on there without the bags. I don't see what it would hurt riding in the rain without them as there isn't much under there to get wet. Most of the water that gets in there will drain out anyway.

I was able to secure a pair of spacers myself by contacting Honda North America. I didn't think it would work but it did! Now to find 8x50mm bolts to accommodate the spacers...

Those aren't to accomodate the spacers. They're for the top mntg position on the bag bracket. The spacers just float around the mount to make it all pretty I'd avoid stainless bolts (probably all you'll find at retail hardware), since these will be tightened down pretty good. Order grade 5 from Tacoma Screw online. The correct type of bolt is called a "socket head cap screw". If I remember right they're 8mm hex drive

Congrats on getting the spacers! I contacted Honda and was told they couldn't get them. If you can remember who you talked to, maybe I could try again?

Also, did you find that the 50mm bolts were long enough? My stock bolts are approx 45mm so i was thinking 55mm due to the thickness of the top of the rack mounts....?

The person I talked to was Michelle at N.A. Honda Motorcycle, sorry I don't have a last name. She was also able to verify the length of the bolts (8x50) that came with the saddlebag kit but didn't have a part number. I has able to do digging and ordered 4 Honda bolts with the part number, 96700-08050-17. They ended up working great.

    Good luck!

I contacted Honda Customer Relations for mine. It took Mike two months to get them and even then had to have a set taken off the factory line.

I'm looking for the spacers and bolts as well.
Just called Honda NA Powersports and talked with a girl named Michelle but she mentioned that since these are part of the mount kit, they do not have part numbers for them to sell separately.
Also, the online link above is for a shop in Europe which will cost close to $100 shipped to me in California. Not an option for me.
If anyone has other ideas or a used set, let me know.
    Thanks,

    Thanks Cyborg,
I haven't decided yet - I don't know whether I would prefer buying your damaged ones, or just simply mounting the racks without spacers. Would the ripped one fall off, and/or would it look better or worse with the damaged ones, or just mounting without spacers?
    Etc..........!?

And Stefon - I agree, i did not and will not be ordering from that link either. Also I wonder if Honda got wind of the exceptions and put an end to the special requests... or i suppose there could be more than one phone rep name Michelle......

I am still thinking I might try to cut my own out some kind of sheet rubber.... Who knows.........! :)

They may be repairable, I just never tried but do think it's a bad idea to go without spacers. They did stay put on my VFR until I mounted the OEM top case rack, which has molded rubber that takes the place of the spacers....

Ok, well then my next question would be, how much would you be selling them for? (That top rack mount does look like awesome by the way!)

Cyborg, I'd be interested in your spacers as well depending on shipped cost to 95110.
    Let me know.
    Thanks.
