I am wanting to do services on my 05 VFR800. I am a little motorcycle illiterate. Im a car guy. Don't really know motorcycle mechanics. I know I need a new chain. I figured I might as well change both chain and sprocket. I want to make it were its got a little bit more acceleration, but keep around the same MPG. The bike at 75 MPH usually cruises around 5000RPM. Is that normal. The guy I bout the bike from cut the baffels out of the exaust so I had to seal the mufflers up. Other then that. Have any of you put a power commander on your bikes. Im concidering it. Let me know what you guys think. Also is there anything else I need to look at besides spark plugs, air filter, oil change, etc. Oh and the bikes got about 10k on it. I love this bike time to put some money in it to keep er going.

No on power commander, denso plugs at 16K could have gone longer. Air filter is K&N. Plenty of oil to choose from. Read the oil threads and make up your own mind.

Here is a link that discusses some of the better equipment you can use. It will provide links for differant sellers. I have done exactly what was described and I couldn't be happier. Don't let the anti-520 crowd talk you out of it, as long as you get a hard anodized sprocket you will get acceptable mileage, free up some HP, save some wear and tear on your drive system, and drop about 4lbs. Also try adding two teeth to the rear sprocket for 45 teeth total. It will add some much needed acceleration to the mid-range. Power Commanders are perfectly suited to a VFR, with a Dyno tune, and will transform your machine. Having done all of these things, and witnessing first hand what they can do for a VFR, I would never go back to stock.

Some argue that you should change your sproket everytime you change your chain. I do buy into that and have done so for all my changes which is three or four...can't remember. For some in these times I realize that that little extra money may be harder to find, but for the piece of mind, I think it is worth it. As far as the other mods, I simply do not know. BTW, I have over 70,K miles on mine. The latest chain is a DID but I did get good mileage out of my last one. But it was really hoooped when Ichanged it.
