2004 VFR800, will need to do the first change in the near future. What brand/number oil filter do you use?

I did search on oil filter but didn't find that information.

She's a great bike, but lots of new data to dig up

Use the factory Honda filter, a very high quality filter and pretty easy to find.

The K&N, for no other reason than the NUT on the end of it for ease of takeing it off between the pipes.

I use the Supertech ST7313, about $3 at Wally World. 3.5 inches long, and made by Champion Labs who also make the Bosch and Mobil1 filters...

Have used a Purolator also, but one only, as you can't get the damn things here in Australia, well not that I have been able to find anyway...

Type of oil and filter threads are somewhat subjective, but can produce useful information. I am going with a stainless steel reuseable oil filter and have decided to change over to synthetic oil. Initially I was thinking of using Mobil 1 or Amisol. I have since changed my mind and have decided to go with the Shell Rotella synthetic 5w-40 oil. It is an oil with no moly or unwanted additives. Works for me - there are a lot of great products available so use what you like after some research. Even though the Mobil 1 oil supposedly has moly additive which may produce clutch slipage there are people who still like the Mobil 1 oil and will not change.

That depends on the mobil 1 you are refering to. Overall most oils the synthetic motorcycle offerings and shell rotella are superior to what was available back in 2002. Improvments are made often and i think the secret is to pick quality and you win everytime.
Basically change intervlals fluctuate depending on what you chose. I basicall follow 5k or 6months which ever comes first with mobil one. I have used Rotella and the new castrol edge 10w-40 motorcycle oil with similar results. I did use the pure one but i noticed issues in cold start conditions. The stnadard purolator flows better in cold weather ... Before people chime in .. It is my experience and opinion... There.

The 5w-40 shell flows better too hence the 5w.... Some guys up in Canada use 0w-40 for winter if they drive at all.

The Stainless steel filters specs are good. They flow a lot of oil even at low preassure which should prove good in cold weather.

I live in the middle Atlantic and we have extremes from 100+ degrees in the summer to 0 or below in the winter. We experience lots of conditions.
