So I am gunna paint my 500, however i am on a budget and will only be using rattle cans. I have experience in this so I am not worried about how it looks as much and the scheme of it. So if you have some pictures you can show my to get some ideas of what to do. I thought about going gun metal black or silver not sure. dont murder me on the this one plz.

Why not do both like this CBR250
    [IMG]

or this black and silver VF750.

Can you be a little more specific on the budget. You can get really good results from PPG's Omni line basecoat and clears and the job will look 100 times better for $150 or so. However, I have seen a nice rattle can job on here for a 500. Hopefully he'll show up and re-post some pics. It can be done but the paints/clears don't stand up to spilled fuel.

Either way good luck and keep us posted. We demand pics all along the way.

Can't beat the stock 86 colours! Best of that model for sure. I did a quick search, check out this beauty:

I really liked the way the previous owner did mine up. It got fav reviews around here, not so much on the forum. I wasn't a fan of the black swishes, but i didn't hate them either. Previous owner had the fairing matching the tank at one point, but he smashed it up:

Someone here has a yellow one that I thought looked pretty cool.

I would avoid all black for the 500. No disrespect for anyone who's done it. There's just been too many of these first gens mistreated with bad, black paint jobs for a good job to ever look good. Creative black and silver might work though, perhaps following the stock paint/decal lines.

Always a fan of custom builds. This said, the original color schemes, esp. the '84 and '86 models are hard to top.

The designers at Honda put a lot of thought into how your eye follows the striping pattern which creates a very pleasing look. Early to mid 80's bikes, esp. Factory bikes, really excelled at this.

Not to say you will not be able create a new color scheme that works aesthetically (as posted above the CBR is quite nice) but I would consider giving some thought to using the original pattern as helpful guide.

Put some white CBR f2 wheels on it,, eliminatre the rear fender and change the black on the fairing to white with a blue stripe is what I would do. Heres a pic of my old black one with a custom tail i did and a cbrf2 rear wheel

The only paint that is buffed in that pic is the tank actually. It's just some cheap black automotive paint. You know you can buy a paint gun and a little air compressor for less than $100 and I bet it would look a little better than a spraycan. On the tail I cut off the "duckbill" and turned the light upsidedown and it fit right back in there. I also removed the mud flap with a dremel and a cutting wheel

So if I paint it a midnight blue and change the wheels to a cbr f2 wheel.I think that will look good. I just dont like the no fairing look on my bike with a stripe painted on ither.

Have you tried buffing out and polishing up what you got now? I like it besides the black on the bottom of the fairings covering the engine. Maybe just tape that off and paint that part white and continue the blue stripe with the interceptor logo in it on down to the side fairings.

I painted the bottom of those fairings black to keep it from getting all scraped up. All i need to do is clean the black off and its white again.
