    Hi guys

i am just back from press day at the EICMA show and... our lovely VFR800 is back, easy to see the good old frame and motor behind the new plastic.

it is called Crossrunner now, indeed, something between a Varadero and a VFR, i.e. sits taller, seat heigth is 810mm and upright bars. Sounds pretty good mix to me even if a bit less sporty. Best of all, seemingly no V-Tec :)

    Cheers from Milan

It looks like a 6th Gen that's been repackaged.

Honda is wasting perfectly good 6th gen parts on that ugly ass thing. While they're wasting perfectly good stuff, please box up and ship that model to Metallican525...................................................no, I'm not kidding, make sure she's still got them boots on too, mmmk, thankz.

Looks interesting, too upright to suit me but looks the goods for practical comfortable long distance ( 21.5 Litre tank ) back road barnstorming with some gravel and dirt dirt sections and will still have a great V4 sound once the pipe has been dumped for an aftermarket.

    More news at mcnews.com.au:
    Honda Crossrunner

Most telling is below from Linky and for some reason would have expected shorter than VFR gearing:

" Based on the highly successful engine from the VFR800 the 782cc V-4
promises to make the Crossrunner a spritely performer on the road.

The six-speed transmission sports identical gearing to the VFR and
shares the same 43/16 final drive ratio.

That suggests the Crossrunner is aimed more at the road going end of
the adventure spectrum and the choice of road sized rims and tyres
    confirms it.

The Crossrunner is firmly aimed at riders that predominantly spend
most of their time on the blacktop but appreciate the more
comfortable ergonomics afforded by an upright riding position and
the freedom to venture onto well-formed trails if need be.

Even the chassis looks to have been largely picked up directly from
the road going VFR800 parts bin. That’s no bad thing as the VFR has
sweet balance and will give the Crossrunner a high level of rigidity
that will prove a great asset while scything through a set of bends. "

If you go to the hell for leather magazine site it has the Crossrunner up too, but they think it's the same engine v-tec and all, though I'm not positive it is. They assume that Honda took the 800 chasis and engine and put some overly expensive fairing on it and called it a new bike

Exactly. This has all the appearance of a 6th Gen parts bin bike. This is how GM used to make cars - a little bit different sheet metal on the same platform and all the rest of the components out of the parts bin. Borrring.

I'll grant that styling is a highly personal preference. I've owned more Honda's than I can count over the years and lusted after every one I bought - new or used - but particularly when I got my 5th. I still have 2 - the 5th and a 6th gen. I can barely stand to look at the 7th - for my purposes it's fugly from any angle (yes I've seen it in person). And I absolutely hate the "bee stinger" rear fenders Honda now seems so fond of. They look like an afterthought - something just stuck out there to hang the license plate on. IMHO they look like a fad - poorly thought out and not at all integrated in to the styling or particularly the proportions of the machine. Honda is rapidly losing me as a customer. If they continue down this styling path, I'll be looking at other brands the next time around. I'll keep my 5th in the garage as a reminder of the apex of my desire for Honda products - but I'll be riding something else. To each their own. Just my $.02.

Reaching for my barf bag ~

I have to agree with Cogswell. Honda styling has gone

downhill for a long time. Where are the designers of the '86 VFR750F,

the RC30, the NR750, and the beloved 5th generation VFR800?

Most of the European designs are no better, especially the "beak bikes".

I can visualize the next generation . . . wasp tail and a beak in the front!

On the bright side, I bet you could pick one of them up, then get some 6th gen plastics and fab up some brackets, instant brand new 6th gen!! That is , if they ever finish selling all the NOS 6th gen's they've still got............

    I'm in. love it.

The Triumph Tiger 1050 was on top of my wish list but now I will have to consider Honda's offering.

tinkerin if your looking at Triumph's competition to this new bike try there new Tiger 800 (or the xc version). It seems to be a closer match, close to 100 hp, longish suspension, 430-450 lbs, and it will likely cost less aswell.

thats one fugly pipe! and whats this... no v-tech??? I agree the V-tech has some issues, but its still a valuable asset. 240KG??? where is the extra weight? thinking it would be better if Honda designers were riders out here. This isnt metro-japan where up-right is better.

*shakes head* first shamoo and now this....
