i cant tell the 2 different cdi boxes are obviously not the same on my 84 vf700,

but what im wondering is if anyone has tried using the white box as a replacement for the red box

if the only difference is it controls the fuel pump (which is now bypassed) i have a chance to grab one for free and get the bike up and running without having to wait for the funds...

I have swapped boxes for trouble shooting dead cylinders on my 83. Not sure what you mean by the colors. Both boxes are black with different stickers. I assume you want to use a 1-3 cyl box in place of the 2-4 box. Yes it will work to fire the plugs. Besides it's free so you have nothing to loose. On mine the 2-4 cyl box last four numbers are 3490. I'm looking for a spare if any one has one, cheap.

I just tried my white box on the red plug to see if it would fire the front cylinders and it wouldnt...

and now the white box wont fire the white plug/rear cylinders so im guessing it fried my white plug box as well...

How do I check the voltage regulator, and would it cause only the cdi box on the red plug to stop working? And then like I said the white plug one worked until I plugged into the red plug....

you need a book and a Ohm meter. I don't know how they burn out hopefully someone on here can guide you threw testing them.

my voltage regulator and red plug cdi box was bad on mine when i bought it mechanic told me to get voltage regulator because mine was bad.
I did see both boxes on E bay yesterday 11/02 and volt regulator. Good luck with this and let us know.

does the book tell you how to test the volt reg?

if not ill just have to wait for someone to tell me which wires to check for what resistances

yes the Clymer book does have a section on how to test all your electrical components I not sure how to do it or with what kind of Ohm meter. you might want to search the forums or start a new thread. good luck.
