2005 starts but will dies after releasing the ignition button!!
my prob strted with the bike not staying started after releasing the strt button. The relay made a buzzing sound so i removed it and the bike would continue to run at that point. Now the prob is. It wont stsrt at all. I took it for a ride and after shutting it off and sitting for a while it wont start at all. I still get the buzzing noise in the back on one of the other relays now. The other strange thing is. the bike will kill if i turn the flashers on and the fuel cut off valve relay is removed. I hope this makes sense.

First charge the battery. Then see if it will start. have a volt meter ant the seat off to facilitate the charger on it, oh sorry your going to need a charger and a cheap digital voltmeter , Walmart, Harbor freight, Napa should have these items. OK back to the bike, charge the battery for @6 hrs. replace the relay you took out. See if she starts. if so goto the voltmeter set to the volt D.C scale. it should see 13.-14.9 if not then you may have a Regulator problem, a fuse blown, A stator problem. Pictures please . So do this in that order and call us in th e .. Oh uknow...Mike R..:second:

2005 VFR800 With Exactly The Same Problem - FIXED! :)

I have a 2005 VFR800 non-ABS (I have no idea if ABS or not makes any difference here) and had exactly the same problems - buzzing when the ignition was on and the bike would remain running only as long as the starter button was pushed.

I found posts in other places that suggested it was the earth block. I had a bit of trouble finding this earth block but located it as a square object taped into the wiring just behind the left front turn signal (I had to remove the left side panel and the little one between it and the front fairing to get at it). I pulled the cap off (which also connects all the contacts together) and found one of the contacts looked burnt. I moved the connectors from the burn area to the non burnt area and now the bike runs perfectly.

I shoulda put something in to protect the contacts but I didn't have anything and I wanted to button it all back together. Hopefully that wasn't a mistake!
